Fightman's Build Thread

Matching metallic colors is a beeeyotch. Someone with some actual skills needs to show me how.

I didn't think I'd like it while doing the match, but after I looked at it I did. It looks good to me. But will you still like it 5 years from now? That Toyota green is timeless. It will never look bad to me.

It's pretty tough to get the metallic look not looking like a chrome wrap. I typically change the color to white first and go from there. I'll give it a shot here in a bit...

A little too orange, I think?

Added a little more red..

And of course there's always...

I love a clean white though...

Evergreen all the way. I had a red car once, wouldn't do it again and wouldn't recommend it for others. Good luck picking a color!

I feel like my example leaned a bit too far on the red side where A.Wilson013 leaned a bit too far to the orange. Here's another try just with slightly more orange in it.

Honestly, very conflicted right now! I think I've been pulled away from the "Hot Lava" color of the Rav4 I posted... and now think that a metallic red would be much nicer!

Hepar's rendition seems to be the closest... but looking at "Barcelona Red Metallic" as the actual red color. Also, after seeing the white one.... might be tempted to go white! lol! :ybrick:

That pink is built in anti theft. Most criminals would pass over a bright pink 4Runner. And then if it gets stolen, it would be super easy to locate.

I like the red too. But my hesitation would be any drastic color change personally. To fully change the color would require SO much work. Otherwise you'll have panels here and there with the original color. If you can live with that, then go for it! My OCD would get the better of me.

I thought of that... which is why I'm thinking of hiring the local GM shop to paint it. Being a GM dealership, affiliated garage, I'm thinking it will be done right?

Also, I've been hearing good things about another local guy, who has his own private business... I'm hearing lots of positive feedback from this guy.... so might go see him.

Being done right is also going to be VERY expensive. Like... Cost of a new 3rd gen in better shape expensive.

Being a dealership has no real merit. I've seen horrible work come from dealerships. Meanwhile there a large independent body shop I know of where supercar owners will only go to simply because their work is second to none. You can guess where I go.

I would honestly stick with green. You want to freshen it up, and having an orange exterior with a green engine bay and door jambs would just make it feel like a project that is always needing attention. Maybe you're fine with that, though. It's little details like that which are constantly lingering in the back of my mind.

I realize that... This is the way I see it... I've been wanting to do a project vehicle (K5 Blazer, Shoebox Chevy, 40 Series Landcruiser, etc) for a while now. THat being said, I can't justify buying one, and then keeping my beloved 4Runner, which I don't want to daily drive anymore. (I want to preserve this truck, and use it as a Sunday Cruiser).

My Taco is going to be paid off soon, so I'll have some extra money around every month for something new. I'm thinking of buying the wife a small car / suv, keeping the Taco for myself (she hates the size of it).

The car will have to be around $8000.00 and then I'm expecting to pay a few grand for paint on the 4Runner.

One factor I'm looking at, I know this truck... inside and out. I already have a ton of money invested in it, it drives well, has relatively low mileage (approx. 230 000 kms), with an interior that is in great condition, an undercarriage that has been treated for rust prevention since I got it 2004. It's a solid truck... just needs some freshening up.

I'm too attached to it, to sell it, and don't have the room to keep it, and another project vehicle. So I'm opting to give mine a facelift, and make it like new again. :artist:

You guys have no idea how much I've been thinking about this... when I have an idea in my head, it's hard to get out. I've been losing sleep over it! lol!

I also sourced a Scooped Hood for this project.... something I've been wanting to do since I first decided to mod this truck in 2008!

Man I thought you just stopped posting on here, but I guess I got unsubscribed from your thread.

I totally understand your current dilemma. I've got money set aside for paint but can't settle on a color.

It's currently Smurf blue in top of evergreen pearl (it came painted already). The engine compartment and door jambs are all still green but it's dark enough it doesn't bother me too much.

I've though keep it blue (I've grown accustomed to it and it gets attention), go back to green, change to a different green, Toyota red, or white. I don't know.

I think the problem is too many options...

P.s. I hope you find your sport hood

Hello A.Wilson013, sorry for hijacking your Photoshopping skills on fightman80 's thread, but can you please do a 4runner in the quicksand color from the 2016 4runner/Tacoma/tundra?
