Fightman's Build Thread

lol i thought the video would include you hitting a piece of floating ice! darn....cool video regardless :)

Hey fightman, I read on another thread that your pro comps have a 4.25 backspacing. Do you happen to know what the backspacing is on our stock 6 spoke wheels?? Im seeing wheels in the near future for my truck, and Im trying to figure out how far out I want to push them relative to what they are stock

No idea man, I know that I'm not a fan of the stock backspacing, and heard that I needed the 4.25" to clear my 285's, so bought those wheels.

I think Brian2sun might be able to tell you, as I think I remember him making reference to this subject in the past....but I'm not sure.

Sorry man, wish I knew more. :(

Hey nice work on the home-made panhard drop bracket! Glad to see your actually getting some winter out east too. It's been +15 here in southern Alberta for the last week and it's ridiculous.

As per the backspacing comment: I remember reading that stock T4R wheels have 5.25" BS.

So today, I was outside fiddling with the truck trying to get it running right again. My truck started sputtering again, running rough, and the CEL came back on, just like last month when I did the plugs and wires. After swapping the coil pack and that not working out for me, I decided that before I go buying more parts I might not need, I'd try some Fuel Injector Cleaner and give that a shot. Almost immediately the truck started running good! I let it idle for a half hour, let it get good and hot, and then ran it up and down the highway and.....wammo!!! It ran with none of the above mentioned issues! I was really happy about that!

After that was done, I decided that I was tired of seeing that block heater cord hanging out from under the hood!

My old setup looked pretty horrible....

I decided to run the block heater cord down to my bumper and actually went a step further and ran it to my TRD skid plate.

I just zip tied it so it can sit here:

The cool thing though, I can just tuck it in behind the skid plate, when I don't want to use it!

This pic is a little dark, so I'll replace it later with a better daylight pic, but as you can see...the block heater plug is not even noticeable anymore!

I know....not really a cool mod, but it was driving me crazy seeing it in all the pics! HE HE HE!

Input on Tundra/5100 (non Adjust) Ride Quality

SC mentioned that your'e using the tundra struts that came with your tundra coil/strut assembly and id like to hear how the ride is?

Im thinking of going that same route instead of using my 4runner HDs wit the tundra coils. I dont want anymore then 2" lift up front. Any feedback on this set up would be appreciated if there is any.

Ya I've read in a couple places that the 6 spokes that we have are 4 5/8 back spacing. I am looking at some wheels that are 16x8 with 4 1/2 backspacing, so it should give me some wider stance...

Alright, so I've been working on the ISR Mod today, and got a good chunk of it finished! I'm gonna post pics of the work in progress, but still have to finalize a logo to put on it, as well as the rest of the paint work.

As most of you know, I'm thinking of going with a TRD logo in one of these color combos:

Or making my own Logo to personalize it:

The thing is...as much as I like the idea of personalizing it...my entire build is based on MY interpretation of what a TRD 4Runner should be....so having the TRD logo under the hood would help tie that in with the theme. Anyway, more on that later!

Here's a shot of the stock intake all cut up:

The parts I kept:

3" Exhaust tubing my buddy let me use:

One thing I noticed was that I needed to find a solution for the vacuum line fitting on the intake. Since I wanted to keep it as stock as possible, I decided to run the inlet off my ISR tube. However, the stock vacuum line was too short, so I used some tubing I had lying around and extended the tube an extra 3".

Here's a pic of the intake tube cut and test fitted:

And a pic of the ISR with inlet tube and a basecoat of Toyota Graphite Grey Pearl:

There is still some work to do with the Logo decision, and then actually putting it on the ISR, as I'm most likely going to paint it on. I'll keep you all posted on the progress, but hoping to finish this by Friday!

Looking at that tube .... is it possible the steel will rust on the inside slowly and your engine will breath in rust flakes?

If you can, I would stick with an aluminum or stainless steel tube for the intake. On the exhaust it would not matter.

What do you guys think? Otherwise it looks great to me.

:thumb3:

I think Fightman will be OK with the tube for if rust appears, paint the inside.

I am more worried about that empty wine bottle on the second shelf. I guess the neighbor came for another visit.

No turning back once you cut up the stock intake tube huh? I like the level of commitment there Fightman! :pimp:

I think that's the biggest tube I've ever seen used for an ISR mod. I'll be interested to know what you think of it once it's up and running.

The thing is...as much as I like the idea of personalizing it...my entire build is based on MY interpretation of what a TRD 4Runner should be....so having the TRD logo under the hood would help tie that in with the theme.

I completely understand this. When I had my CRX (with B16a swap) my plan was to make it look (and perform) as if Honda had done a CRX Type-R. It was gonna be Honda Championship White, with Racing Red accents. I had already put type-R high compression pistons in it, as well as high spring-rate valve springs, and was planing on getting the camshafts out of a Civic Type-R.
Sadly, I had to leave that car in NM when I moved back to Texas :sobbing:
