Finally did my Satoshi grill!

So after buying all the necessary supplies last November, I finally got around to doing the Satoshi mod with my grill. I took ideas from a few different people. I used a heavier gauge mesh, so I wanted something more than zip ties to hold it in place. Here are some pics of the process, and when it gets light outside, I'll take an installed pic.
All the guts cut out

I epoxied threaded rod around the outside

Here is the mesh, already cut to size...used a jigsaw with metal blade

Fiberglass...hadn't used the stuff since junior high

Bondo

Here is a shot with mesh over the threaded rod...used washers and nylon nuts to secure

And finished product

Took about 8hrs total, so not too bad. Plan on taking the left over mesh and doing the lower valance in the coming weeks.

Did you not use resin on the fiberglass? looks like you just put bondo on top? looks good anyways.

No it was resined. It was a jelly resin fiberglass that just happened to be the same color as the bondo. I had never used it before, always used the syrupy kind of resin...we just happened to have this at work. I like it better too, not as sloppy.

Looks good man but it is not a Satoshi (style) mod.

The Satoshi style specifically refers to having the "TOYOTA" emblem on top of the mesh vs just mesh with a logo / no logo.

Other than that truck looks great.

Ah, didn't know that...I work with a guy who has a 70s FJ and if he ever remembers to bring it in, he said he'd give me the grill emblem from it. Until then, I guess I'll just call it my "Satoshi-esque grill"

No big deal. A lot of guys on T4R make the mistake.

Satoshi style write ups were originally on YotaTech and were later copied by T4R members.

Cool. What brand is it? Ive always used the bondo brand syrup **** as well. lol

Thanks. I must have read 20+ threads on how to do it. I can't remember where I saw the idea for the threaded rod, but I chose to do it that way since I used thicker mesh. That way if a decent size piece of road debris hits, it won't bend the mesh. I just think its another instance of having 1,000 ways to do a single job, and just finding the way that works for you.

We had it sitting around at work. It was left over from a repair job in one of the dorms. Its the mesh that is used in plaster lathe. I'm sure you can get small sections at Lowes or something.
