Finally got one!!

After 3 weeks of continuous searching I finally picked up my first 4runner. 2000 limited with 218k miles on it. Bought it from the original owner who recently upgraded to a 2014. Only reason he was selling it was because his daughter didn't want it for her first car. Timing belt has been done on it and he's kept up on basic maintenance. Needs tires and struts. No squeaks or rattles and the steering is as tight as my car. No noises from the engine or drivetrain while driving. Been in central Texas it's whole life so no worries about rust. No major dents or dings. Clear coat isn't peeling.

I'm excited. I finally get to quit hunting out of my 350z :lmao: plus I get to join my brother in law and his Jeep friends in the rocks and I get to go play in the mud again.

Time to order a tune up kit, tires, lift, and tranny cooler. :D

$350 later I've got plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil filter, oil, transmission filter, PCV valve, front/rear/transfer case fluid, air filter, and an external trans cooler so I don't have to worry about the pink milkshake.

Here's a picture from the ad. I'll get some more up when I pick it up tomorrow and give it a good detail.

That lift would certainly work. Look around on here at the lift FAQ and check out some builds. You can piece together a functional lift for not a lot of money. Congrats on the purchase.
 
Congrats! Nice truck. I almost bought a 2001 SR5 with that same color scheme. Ended up in a solid Imperial Jade Mica 2001 Sport instead. Great to hear that you're already diving into the basic maintenance. Enjoy!
 
Y'all think it would be worth it to go ahead and replace both of the O2 sensors while I'm doing a tune up? This thing is going to get a full seafoam treatment.

Unless you're getting codes, no - I thought they only offered 4Runners in silver?
 
Pic of 350z also? Any real power upgrades on it? (Nitrous?, turbo?, SC?)

Very nice 4runner by the way. You will love it.

As for the sensors, your call but don't waste money on parts you don't need. If no CEL (make sure it's working by turning the ignition on without starting it, it should light up) and your gas mileage is ok I wouldn't worry too much about it, but here's an interesting thread on the subject:

Just a borla cat back and intake for now. Trying to find some OBX long tubes for it (I'm not paying PPE's ridiculous prices) and then contemplating a SC or a rear mount. Car has a nitrous kit on it currently from the first owner (guy I bought it from was best friends with the original owner) and it's been dynoed at 265hp at the wheels on a 50 shot. Right now I'm going through and doing some sound deadening and replacing all of the bad bushings. So far I've done the rear diff and front lower control arms with Whiteline's and just replaced the lower ball joints up front. Still need to order up the radius rod bushings and get those swapped in and redo the grounds on my amplifiers to get rid of this god forsaken alternator whine.
 
I cant stand alt whine!!!! Nice ride, they are fun cars. Either way a nice rear turbo or SC would be so much fun. I love how those cars feel around a turn and rear tires breaking loose! They just want to drift.
 
Thanks. I had a G37s with a full suspension and exhaust on it and like a dumbass sold it. Might look in to getting the 37s sedan next year. Going to have a kid by then and the Z doesn't lend itself to family to well. And I prefer the rear end stay planted. Something about 90* corners at 40+mph that gets me all worked up.
 
Good on your for doing the full run of maintenance before starting with any mods, not enough people do that.

Nice new 4runner!

So very true. That's what I'm doing and almost done. Just some non essential stuff left for me. Tie rods that are slightly worn, fuel filter, and timing belt/water pump here in about 4k miles once it hits 90k since the last one.

OP, don't forget about the LBJ, especially if you are planning on lifting. Nice looking Z too. I was expecting to see a completely slammed one held together with zip ties. I guess I'm just used to the car scene around here...

Exactly. Plus with all the money in preventative maintenance you will only want the best for it afterwards.
 
Got it home. Had a nice 45min drive with it. There's 3/4" of slack in the throttle pedal HAHA. It definitely needs a good tune up but it ran nice and smooth. Plus side is the PO found the receipt for the timing belt and water pump and it was done last year so score for that. I'm going to tighten the throttle cables tomorrow along with sea foam and cleaning the MAF and throttle body. Rest of the parts show up wednesday and thursday which is perfect because the wife has a work dinner thursday night so I'll have all evening to work on it.

Lift and tires get ordered Friday.

I'll check the ball joints when I do the lift. Was going to have toyota run the vin and see if it qualifies for the recall. If they need doing I'll pay a shop. The ball joints on my car were the last set of ball joints I'll ever do.

As for the car, thank you. I try not to conform to the ricer crowd crap. Freaking hate the slammed look with stretched tires and idiotic camber.
