Just kidding it was a 100 series landcruiser did the 1 finger wave. Guess my 4R looks like a 100 series at a glance :moping:

I've been trying to make eye contact with anyone who drives a 4R since I got mine.
But 99% of the drivers don't notice and could care less that we both drive the same vehicle.
Seems that my area has a lot of people who "ended up" in a 4Runner,
rather than buying one because they loved them and wanted one.
I can tell because the drivers are usually a soccer moms,
and I never see anything more than a stock truck with no accessories.

I passed by a white 5th gen today that had a Gobi rack and ladder. I waved, and he waved back. I think that's the first time for me.

Last week I pulled into a gas station and a guy in a '95 4Runner at the next pump came over and checked out my 5th gen and we chatted a bit.

See them all the time, but no one around here appreciates what they have.
The ones around here are mostly Taliban Transporters.
Living in Canada, I figured there'd be a lot more appreciation for these trucks. Guess not...

re:

Ha, funny I should find this thread now. I noticed the Jeep guys waving to each other shortly after getting my 4Runner and decided to give it a try with other 5th gen 4Runner drivers.......and nothing. As mentioned above many seem to be soccer moms who don't care. Sad really, as I did get to experience this wave phenomena with my MKII Supra. Maybe more mud on the 4Runner is required in this case....LOL

I've only ever gotten a wave in my 4th gen by a guy crossing the intersection in his 3rd gen. Me or my wife have never gotten a wave back in the 5th gen.

My wife just got a 2012 4Runner in Nov and we'll wave on occasion, but don't get many back. This was big with modified Subaru owners (I have a modified Forester).

Guy in a sedan did not wave, he scribbled on a pice of paper while driving and helped it up against his driver side window. Paper said, "Selling the 4Runner?" Too bad my passenger did not have a camera handy; that would have been a cool pic.

Owner of this 1986 Turbo didn't wave, either. I found him at bike shop where he works and we chatted... :)

You mean one like this? Then, I would surely wave.

Where do you live in Nebraska? In northern rural Kansas (where my wife’s from), most locals give the one-finger wave, regardless of what you’re driving. :) A one-finger wave in and around Omaha or Lincoln could mean something else altogether, though. :mmph:

I only wave if it's a modified Toyota. If I waved at every 4Runner my arm would never stop moving.

I get a lot of 4runners and tacos at work, and they are always caught off guard when they see me checking out their ride and start to ask questions. I cant help it. :attention:

Got a thumbs up from a white sr5 driver, I just stared because at first I thought he was flipping me off, but then I was confused, probably ended up looking like an idiot lol

There are tons in the Phoenix area but most of them are stock, and none of them ever seem to even notice my 4Runner. Sometimes I wonder if they're aware of what they are driving.

I did have a guy in another 3rd-gen pull up next to me at the gas station/drive-thru liquor store and say "nice truck!"

Another time at a different gas station a Land Cruiser driver stopped to talk to me about my truck a bit. So twice in the 5 years I've owned it.
