I pulled over and shut her off to take the photo. She still gets 18 plus mpg, doesn't use oil, has survived the strawberry shake radiator failure 40000 miles ago as well as the rust through rear diff leak. 2001 SR5, born September of 2000.

Yeah it's the newer ones that actually have a temp sensor. 96-98 for sure do not have them, can't remember if 99's do or not.

My '99 (originally) 2WD has the light. All the years have the temp sensor, just only '99+ reports it via OBD-II.

Nah, my 97 Limited had that light...and I set it off once when I was wheeling on a hot summer day two summers ago. It basically means you've fried your A/T fluid since the temp it comes on at is really high, so I had to drain and refill when I got back home. I also installed a tranny cooler after that too.
