I've been a lurker for a long time, but this is my first post.
We bought our 98 back in 2002 with 69,000 miles from the dealership in Flagstaff, AZ. It started out as my wife's daily driver, and has went back and forth a couple times.
It's come back to being 'my truck' for good. She recently said she wouldn't care if I camoed it with spray cans. :whoo:
I don't think I'm going to do that to the paint yet, but I do want to make some changes.
First is suspension. I just ordered a 1.2 kit from Sonoran Steel.
The rear end has been sagging for awhile, so this wasn't too hard a sell. We're also going to be moving soon, so the truck will be loaded and pulling a trailer.
I've been reading these forums for awhile, so I have lots of things planned for the truck:
Fix the clock
Fix steering column play
black out chrome and spray all plastics to match.
replace running boards with sliders
replace bumpers
etc etc
The truck is currently Red, but I've always admired the green ones. Anyone have thoughts on changing the color? The clear coat is starting to go on the factory paint job, so I gotta do something. While I have considered a spray can camo motif, I'm capable and willing to 'do it right' (DIY style mind you) and setup a paint booth in the garage for awhile.
I'm also picking up a new set of wheels and tires tomorrow. There are a couple sets on CL. I want an extra set of wheels so I can paint a set and let them cure for a long time before mounting tires on them. I'm still not sure if I want to paint my current wheels or the new ones. I'll decide after I have both sets in front of me.
oh ya, the specs...
98 4Runner, ~155,000 miles, SR5 4.3 V6 Auto w/diff lock. Seems like I lucked out and got a pretty good platform to start with.
Anyway, I'm really excited to finally upgrade this suspension.
I'll start a journal once I finish a mod or two. I'll take plenty of pictures along the way.
It's those 'before' pictures I always forget to take
