Finding the remote start

So...

I just picked up a 2013 Trail edition used. The original build sheet says a remote start was added at the port, but the place I bought it from (a Mini dealer) knew nothing about it. Tried hitting the lock button 3 times, no result. How do I figure out if the vehicle actually has a remote start installed, or if it has been removed at some point?

On my 2017 there is a (yellow?) sticker under the hood that says something to the effect of: 'this vehicle is equipped with a factory remote starter.' I think there's also a decal/sticker on the driver's side door jamb and/or window too.

To engage the remote start with the factory keyfob, you have to quickly press the lock button twice, then press & hold for 3 sec and the engine will start.

Thanks. I have the same sticker, just wasn't sure how to confirm it. I'll try the key again after the household wakes up. Not all of us have a 30 year military internal clock that refuses to reset!

To get at the OEM remote start brain, the glove box needs to be removed. The module is up high and to the left.

Our 4Runner has remote start but what I find dumb is: we press the lock button twice fast, then a 3rd time and hold...the truck starts...I go up to get in and the driver door is locked.

So, to get in, naturally, I press the unlock button on the key fob which (and here's where it gets dumb) shuts the engine off but unlocks the door.

Why have remote engine start if in a matter of seconds I have to shut it back off just to get in????

As far as I know, every Toyota with OEM remote start......

I'm not saying I disagree with anyone, it sounds pretty dumb to me as well.
But you can imagine Toyota and the bean counters not wanting any lawsuits....

Your best bet, if it's really so bad to start it up again every time, is to go after market.

Well for me junked the factory remote start and went with a compustar remote start and alarm. You can unlock your doors and the engine keeps running just put your key in the ignition in the run position off ya go.
