Well, for most of us here in PA, this "HISTORIC and EPIC" storm is a bust. About 12 hours ago, they (numerous weather authorities) were forecasting 12-24 inches of snow. They are now downgraded to 2". Most of Philly will be closed tomorrow for no apparent reason. EPIC bust. I seem to remember when weather forecasting seemed to be more spot on. Lately, it has sucked. This storm for 1 and a deadly ice storm that NO ONE predicted last week (multi-car pile up that occurred a couple of miles from where I live).
Happy to see no epic snow fall (these kinds of storms bring economic hardship as well as endanger people's lives), sure wish the science of predicting weather gets better.

That's because the weather people have figured out how to make money on forecasts, bot government and private. Can you imagine what the Ad buy was in your area for the past 72 hours? Sensationalism at it's best.
Glad you guys didn't get hit. We get a lot of snow here and when it gets deep it just sucks to do anything. We got 6" here last night and didn't even get a "winter weather advisory" from the weather people. They told us 4"-6" but its no big deal here.
For those of you who were going out to play in 30" of snow (if you got it) you need to be careful. Very few vehicles will go in even 20" of snow and most of those have skis on the front or tracks all around. I know from experience that 20" of snow for even a short run (say 100 feet in wet snow) is tough to do in a 4Runner. You start floating up on the snow (as your ground clearance is only 10" or so) and when that happens you high center and are stuck. At that point what type of tires or lift you have does not matter. Good luck up there.

Very Happy too since we were in the 18-20" band! Our grand total is about 6" which was enough to close schools yesterday and today but that's about it.

I remember jumping off the 3rd story balcony at the dorms in my bunny pants and parka into the snow bank when I was in the USAF, now granted the snow was up to the 2nd story.

24+inches isn't too shabby, also considering how populous the entire east coast is from D.C. to Portland - so there's that component as well.
About the Author: From Buffalo, so I'm used to a flake or two. Now, living in D.C., I'm happy to get a couple inches - we always get the edge of the North East storms.

lol looks like you high centered on the snow. see that all the time up here cause people don't understand that aspect.
rule of thumb, if your plowing with the front end, be careful cause it doesn't take much to pack that snow and high center.
cars usually don't get very far in before that happens and are easier to get back out, but suv's tend to get in deeper cause they are heavier and sit higher.
once that happens, just dig underneath and remove the snow before trying to back out. if you don't, you just dig deeper holes under the tires and have to dig even more from underneath the frame.
