First few days......what I've noticed so far

I know I've only had it a few days, but here are a few things I've noticed.....

-the 1-2 and 2-3 shift have a small jolt feeling under normal acceleration (it's an auto)
-there is belt squeak for about a second on start up.

Not sure if there are any fixes for these, I don't have any service records yet but will be checking with Toyota on my day off.

Dude @ 195k miles you (and rest of us) should be thankful our transmissions work at all.

If it exploded tomorrow while driving it would be well within the MTBF for any auto transmission.

I am at 213k miles and my tranny is still going strong. I am thankful :)

Have you done any flushes? Those are usually the first remedy.

I think all you can do is drain and fill then if you want to go all the way do a full flush.

My trans acts better once it has warmed up.

Does it only squeak when you first start it in the morning on cool days?

Mine does the same thing if its 50* or so in the morning (more or less depending on temp). I think it may be related to the PS pump and the heavy Lucas stop leak in it.

Just kind of chalked it up to one of those noises that doesn't hurt anything and becomes normal on a truck with 260k on her

I'd drain and fill the tranny 2x and see how it acted after that.

It sound like an old drive belt for the squeak. Replace all three. If they are new, tighten them up ever so slightly.

Per the 335, my GF's aunt had one but traded it in for a so called 1 series M. She said the 335 had an awful front suspension as well as random steering issues. Before the 335, she had a 540 which she loved until the garbage man hit it one morning with the truck.

If the transmission jolts when it shifts, you may need to adjsut the kickdown cable at the throttle body. I have my kick down cable disconnected from the tb, pulled all the way out, and tied to the intake manifold. jerks the truck it shifts so hard. Also, my trans has 248000 miles on it, shifts great and tows 4000lbs loads with ease.

Tried to find a page that explains the adjustment of the kickdown but cant

It's better for the transmission if the shifts are firm. I'd much rather have nice tight shifts than luxury shifts

yeah check the tranny fluid, and possibly do a series of drain and fills over the next few weeks, drop the pan and clean that and the filter and yeah see how things are after that. as far as the squealing i bet its the belts, either they are old or they are lose. probably wouldnt hurt to replace them. and dont for get to do basic now use car stuff, drain the diffs, and all other fluids and fill with new fresh stuff, just so you know when the last time it was all done. maybe giver her a good tune up, new filters and plug/wires, clean the MAF and TB, maybe seafoam the truck too... replacing the o2 sensor(front really is all you need to do) wouldnt be a bad idea(do this after you seafoam, not before) as o2 sensor life is about 100k all that stuff and your trucks motor will be in good tip top shape, then you can turn your focus to the front suspension....
sorry dont mean to be preaching to the choir man

I'm 99% sure the squealing is the 3 drive belts. Should be around $200 to replace at a mechanic (at least in my area).

As for the transmission, try the drain and fills.

You may never get rid of the jolt feeling during the 1-2 shift. The clutch packs are worn. New fluid, along with some Lubegard Red might help, but probably not much.

Mine does the jolt during the 1-2. I'm going to put some Lubegard Red in when I change the filter. I'll also see what's in the pan when I change the filter. Eek. Hopefully nothing too bad.

yeah and i wouldn't worry about it either, my 1-2 shifts have been doing that for about 60k-80k now, not the coolest thing in the world but not worth chasing down until the clutch packs actually go or the valve body chokes up.

My transmission was very snappy also, it almost felt like it was shifting to hard honestly. Looking back into the maintenance records from the previous owners is saw that there was no transmission maintenance.

I brought it to the shop and had a series of drain and fills done. The mechanic said that the fluid looked pretty good for 118k but definitely needed a change. Since changing i feel that the hard snap it had has dwindled. It does still have a slight snap which is normal, especially for Toyotas. I have noticed no Ford, or Chevy i have driven has the snap effect when shifting...atleast nothing like a Toyota.

As for the squeak, try using a very long piece of metal and touching it to surfaces you may suspect squeaking...or even better..a mechanic stethoscope.

I have the same problem now and have narrowed it down to a belt/pulley.
