Now that I have over 1000 miles I am making the switch to synthetic oil. I purchased the TRD oil filter for the 4Runner but found that it is too long to fit. With the oil cooler adapter on the oil filter stem, the TRD filter hits the sway bar before the threads line-up. Good thing I have a couple back-up cars, allowing me to run up to Toyota for a standard filter.
An interesting thing I learned is that the Amsoil bottle screws right in to the oil filler hole. Same thread and pitch. Cut the bottom of an empty oil bottle and you have an EZ way to fill the new oil.
The removal of the front protection shield was a PITA. The removal of the plastic plate to empty the oilpan was EZ. I can see that a remote oil filter is in the future for me.
