I think it would be alot easier to just take them off, scuff them, primer and spray paint them. Thats what I did to the grill on my vw and it came out great.

The idea actually came from the FJ forum. They put the black tundra handles on there FJs. The door handle gets handled quite a bit so rattle can paint may not hold up so well. A pair of tundra handles can be had for about $50. it is a time versus money arqument. I know the 4runners, tacoma, camrys and others all have the same style handle. I do not know of anyone that has done it. If my 03 had black cladding and not dark gray, I would give it a shot.

Thanks haha. If you've ever driven in Cali you'd understand. Basically everyone drives like a jack@$$ and you never know when you'll run into one that is looking to tussle. One time I actually pulled into a Walmart after this Ford F150 cut me off and as soon as I parked this dude comes at me yelling so I pull out my bat and he got back in his truck so fast when he saw the shiny Louisville Slugger emblem you just gotta make sure you have either a ball or mitt in your ride or you could get in trouble with the CHP

It probably makes more sense just buying new ones then. This might just go on my shopping list for the time being. Sooo many more mods that I wanna do now.

HAHA thanks man! I actually saw a similar rig to mine (what it is now) when mine was still bone stock and basically I blame that other 4Runner for the huge whole in my wallet.

I removed the center piece, scuffed it, painted it and cleared it. Just used rattle cans. Flat black paint and flat clear. matches all the other black accents on the sr5. I did the same w/ the rear license plate garnish, the chrome piece above the plate.

Thanks! Yea I was a bit skeptical about getting the black rims. I was scarred it might stick out wayyy too much after seeing a couple white trucks (non tacos of course) with black wheels. It really helps if you have black accents tho and I'm pretty stoked about the overall outcome. My brother has a black 3rd gen runner completely blacked out. He decided to go the cheaper route and spray his stock rims black. His rig looks so sick now I immediately became jealous and started planning on getting black wheels and now I have em. Now that I added the OME lift he now wants to get his rig lifted. Funny how things work.

well I've been collecting pictures of all the mods i like for the past couple of months so im not sure what kind it is. the second one is one from this japanese guy's rig. i like it a lot though too.

Looks great man, you should definitely get rid of all the chrome and black everything else out! The chrome grill would look good either white or black... blacked out emblems, headlights, tinted tails, etc. :bigok:
