First post-lift question...CV axles

Got my rig back from the mechanic yesterday. Toytec/Eibach up front. Drove it home and drove it around the block today. Noticed a very small amount of grease has seeped out around the inside boots on both axles. Is there something I need to do? Or just get ready to reboot or replace axles?

Find out where on the boot its leaking. If at the end resulting of a clamp not tight enough, you can re-clamp. If there's a small tear on the boot, you can clean it and duct tape. If boot has a big tear like mine had then change cv axle. Re-boot your old one for spare.

I'm pretty sure everyone who's put a lift on gets some leakage. Mine leaked as well. I then decided to to the stretch mod. Within a week of me doing it both inner boots ripped. My advice would be do not do the stretch mod with the old boots. It put to much stress on the old rubber and was a miserable failure on my rig.

Last week I rebooted both the axles with Beck-Arnley boots. I decided to not stretch them and let nature take it's course. My axles where both still in really good condition except for the torn boots. OEM axles are said to be stronger than after market and that's the main reason I decided to keep them.

For now I'd say just wait it out and see what happens. Chances are they'll just leak a bit but won't tear for a while.

Once you lift, you can pretty much guarantee your boots are going to rip. They are old and are now sitting and an angle, the old rubber can't take it. Has happened to everyone of the older rigs I've lifted with the original boots.

Yep mine tore too after I lifted with 140k miles. I rebooted my OEM ones with an OEM boot kit. <$50 and a day of wrenching and I was back in service.

Look into the diff drop. $30 for some cheap insurance. Put mine on about 3000 miles ago, no issues with the boots ripping so far (pass side was already ripped). Had a coil spacer, now im running Fox coilovers.

Is there any major reason there is only 1" diff drops available out there? Is there any major issue with getting even longer bolts and dropping it closer to 2"?

Also, does *anyone* out there make long travel boots for the inners cv joints? Ive seen long travel boots for the outer joints, but nothing for the inner joints.

And as far as stretching out the inner boots so they dont rub on each other, i did this to one of mine, but not the other, and the one I stretched tore after about 600 miles.

Diff drops lower the pinion. They don't actually lower the entire diff, just roll one end down. Lower it too much and you have driveline vibrations and possible internal oiling problems.
