First Rain

So, our first rain in Sacramento that can actually qualify as R A I N and not that sprinkly stuff....the 4Runner windshield must have some sort of treatment as the heavy downpour was just vanishing off the windshield......yes? no? my imagination?

Yes, the windshield and front side windows are treated with Rain-X-like coating that is H2O hydrophobic. Therefore, the rain beads up and roll off. My 3rd gen 4runner (2002) had it also. Not many other manufacturer do this...my old BMW M3 and current G-wagen do not have it.

i wish i would still have my OE windshield

mine got replaced in the 1000 miles period, stupid big rigs keep throwing rocks off on highway 50 and boxed my wife inside their box. no need to say, a long ass 3 feet crack. then replaced with PPG glass, but PPG doesn't have that hydrophobic applied when they made their glass. so i guess rain-x is a must for me, specially the heavy rain yesterday. it sucks!

I'm ready for my 3rd or 4th windshield on the 4Runner, holding out for the inspection and registration tags to expire next month. Currently has 4 breaks in various locations. One looks like it was hit by a golf ball size rock at 70 mph, another crack below my line of sight, and a chip directly in front of my eyes. I wish they would sweep the Houston freeways and toll roads more often. The construction business is booming in Houston and all of the construction traffic on the highways drops a lot of dirt and rocks. I think the glass businesses in the area must have lobbyists working for them to prevent sweeping.

Rain X windshield washer fluid in the reservoir works pretty good for rain. Just need something for rocks Last replacement wasn't on for a week before a rock hit it.

Yep, there be a coating on the windshield. Shame they don't put it on the entire truck. The rain just flies off the windshield and yet the water droplets sitting on the hood scoop just, well, just sit there. Washing and waxing too after a rainstorm is such a pain in the @ss. Mother nature definitely has something against freshly cleaned vehicles.

So do the damn birds. It seems like they will not crap on a dirty car, but when it's just cleaned either just dry or freshly waxed, those damn birds will start to crap all over it.
