First time 4runner owner, need advice

i just bought a 1994 4runner, 5speed, v6, no lift, some body damage. 229k miles
shes got a few problems, oil leak at valve cover, needs a new PS pump an exhaust leak, also shifter may need new bushings, she shifts a lil rough.
but hey i got her for 1100, personally i think it was a good deal.

I'm mainly going to use her to get me to and from work but i would also like to take her muddin when i can find time.

So guys other than getting that oil leak fixed, the new PS pump and repair whatever is effecting the shifter, what should i do to her? what are some easy mods, and maybe a good exhaust to put on her? i want to make her look tough.

Easiest and best mods you can do is SAS 5.29's locked 37's with dual cases and a 3.4 supercharged swap. :thumb:

Nitto tires, a brush guard, some Truck Nutz, those chrome strippers on your mudflaps, and lights. Lots and lots of lights. With American flag light covers.

They don't have to be wired up, though.

Want it to "look tough" or " be tough" because those are two very different things with two different price points.

Easy mods are pretty easy to find on the internet. As far as wanting your truck to "look" tough, those modifications are up to you and what you define as tough.

If you want your modifications to also be functional, a mild lift, tires, sliders, steel bumpers, winches, lockers and skids will go a loooong ways on these rigs. Look up some builds on this and the other Toyota forums and find what you like or what you might need... Then start building!

Exhaust won't do much for you, a lot of the guys I know go with flowmaster or magnaflow... Your local exhaust shop would probably have a good idea. If you wheel, money could be better spent elsewhere.

Well, the rear window does work lol. I don't think I'll be needing stuff like wenches. Like I said mainly a daily driver to and from work. I'll go off roading casually. She's at a local repair shop getting looked over now. Who makes a good brush guard that isn't too expensive?

Heres where we get into to looking tough vs being tough.

You can find brush guards on ebay for about 200. however. They are just for looks, and in the event of an actual accident, will most likley cause more damage than good.

You may check your PS pump to make sure it has does not have PS fluid in it. Ours calls for Dexron ATF (at least some do).

I thought my pump was toast, discovered it had PS fluid in it, flushed and filled with Dexron, and it works like it should and is dead silent (horrible moan with the PS fluid in it).

I always upgrade to the model with the beer mug.

Just get it real muddy and never wash it... that usually looks pretty tough. :boxing:
