First time mud & acted strange

As mentioned first time taking the 3rd gen in mid today just a little fun with my boys. We started in 2wd and slowly crawled in, nothing serious or deep but a tracked construction area.

When trying to play around and spin a little the car feel on its face and started clicking under the driver dash repeatedly. And the traction or skid light popped on and off during this time. At one point the VSC OFF light came on. But what confused me is it feel on its face over and over when I tried to get it to play.

Clicked it in 4wd and it pulled out slow and didn’t show the same symptoms (at least not as obvious)

Is this normal? Sorry for the random but it’s the first time in mud with it

The traction control is trash in mud. Deactivate what you can when mudding. Research Andy Mod. It's a mod ti completely deactivate everything. Brother has it on his 4th gen and he can actually wheel without it disrupting his fun.

AndyMod is for doing donuts in 2WD.

Literally all you have to do to disable the dethrottle capability is lock the center diff. Then, you can do all the donuts and mud spraying you want (see below). You will occasionally get the antilock brakes kicking in to keep the wheels spinning the same speed, but it has never stopped me from getting sideways when I want. If anything, the ABS occasionally kicking in to force powerto the slower wheels actually helps ensure both wheels on an axle are breaking lose, as opposed to a one-tire-fire.

Hoping to complete this job this weekend as me and the wife went trail riding some this weekend and did a lot of creek crossings and it wouldn’t let me have much fun haha.

Right on - center diff locked - Just had a fun weekend mudding in central texas - doesn't get any wetter than the last few weeks here - I've got no 'andy' mod yet my 01 has always pulled full steam thru mud/mush/low water muck when using 4wd w/the center diff locked. Luck. :cowboy:

Sorry I completely missed your comment I apologize. The only buttons I have are skid control like the image attached

On 01/02's that is the Center Diff lock button (which also deactivates traction control)..... :cowboy:

That's your center diff lock button... if you are on truly loose terrain, that should be engaged/locked.

Otherwise, you are in 'AWD' mode, which is meant for mixed conditions on-road, mostly (snow/ice, etc.) where you want traction control.

Gotcha!! Believe I understand now. This is when clicked into 4wd only correct? So this button has no effect on 2wd mode. That’s actually what I was referring to if I wanted to stay in 2wd
