I am 15 years old and am completely overhauling an old 1990 beater with my dad. He bought it for me for my 13th birthday. We have taken out the engine and the transmission, that is on hold. We are currently working on the body. We gutted the entire truck and have soda blasted the body. Getting ready to primer. I have a question about the electrical harness for the engine compartment and the main cab. We thought we could replace it, but are finding that is not an option. I am assuming there is something wrong with the harness because about 4 different electronics did not work. Since I cannot find a new harness, my dad and I are planning on duplicating the current harness using new wires. Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter. I appreciate your help.

What things are not working? Maybe we can shed some light on common issues? They may each be independent issues unrelated to the wiring harness.

100% corect and i would sugest getting any guide(s) that corespond with the second gen runner and look for anny wireing diagrams. i have a haynes and their is a section in the back for the wireing of the first and second gen runners! but a pick and pull or a toyota truck dismantler are your first good bets! building the harness from scratch sounds like a hell of a lot of work to go through!

Great project for You and Your Dad!
My wife and I have owned our '91 6 cyl since new. Several of our troubleshooting and repairs have been wiring related. I.e. turn signals quit working, rear defogger quit, antenna, brake lights always on, engine sensors, etc. I purchase the factory wiring manual for our 4R for $20 from the Toyota dealer and it was a great investment.
Being and Electronics Technician, familiar with your vehicle, and having worked on our wiring, I think you would be far-better-off to troubleshoot your existing wiring system rather than replace it. Wires are just copper conductors and unless your vehicle has fire damage/melted wires, or salt water corrosion, I think you would be time and money ahead to troubleshoot what you've got. With the manaual and your dashboard opened up, you have good access to most everything and detailed information regarding.
It will take you some time and practice to get familiar with the factory wiring manual, but for $20 and another $40 for a good Digital Volt-Ohm meter, you would be making repairs rather than starting from scratch. As someone else mentioned.... in addition to the wiring you also have the connectors. It is no small deal to rewire connectors and the changes of inducing problems would be high.
As is with any Forum this is just my $.02 worth of opinion.
