Fishing pole transport

I was curious as to those of you with a T4R that fish, where do you normally put your fishing poles in/on the T4R? I am kind of anal and think "a place for everything and everything in its place" and wondering what good storage ideas there are for fishing poles with the T4R.

Plus, if you have any pictures of your setup please post those too.

I do a lot of fishing . Depends what length your rods are to begin with . I mostly do lake fishing and the rods are 7 feet and they are 2 piece so I take em apart and just store them in the back . You could always fold one back seat down and have a lot more room .

I have a sub box and can fit 3 rods , 2 tackle boxes ,my big cooler and rod holder and some clothes in there , pull the cover thingie over it all , without ever touching the back seat area .

I guess I should have put that in. I currently I have 6' 6" rod that does not break down. So I need at least that much room.
 
Growing up we used a piece of 4" PVC pipe. One end the cap was clued on, and the other was just pushed on/pulled off. You can cut the pipe to however long you need it to be. If you just have one rod, you could use a smaller diameter pipe, if necessary.

That's a good idea, too. I will most likely have multiple rods in the future and the one I have now is a spinning reel, so I am not sure that would fit in a 4" diameter tube. Will have to see. I do think I want to check out some bait casting reels just for their compact size.
 
Do you have the factory roof racks ? I've always thought it would be cool to build a small rod holder deal and just strap it to those racks on top . You wouldnt even have to have 2 piece rods then ,plenty of room . Hell , you buy a 6" or ? " diameter PVC pipe and strap that up there , make it whatever length you want . Make up some cool decal and slap it on there :D

i just left mine all rigged up reals in the back and then the poles leaning over the back seat with the tips sitting on the roof right above the front passenger window, I would drive around with passengers in the back and front with no probs at all. the rod are anywhere from 6.5 - 8.5ft fly rod.

You can fit multiple rods in a 4" pvc pipe, however you would have to remove the reels and alternate the guides, when you insert / remove them. Think we had 4 or five rods per 4" tube, and 1-2 in a 3" tube.

If you are going to put them on the roof, you could clue the front end, put a threaded insert on the backend so you can gain access to the rods.

Throw some paint on the outside, and it should blend in to the roof rails.
 
I didn't buy it yet but my friends use a snowboard roof rack. It has a lock on it too....but it won't do much with the rods in there. But I'll hold multiple rods with reels! Just make sure you have reel covers or take the reels off.

I do the same unless they are in a soft case that I carry them in. I'll take better care of my rods than my wife:biggrin2:
 
I surf fish and use two 9 foot surf rods and they store easily in a roof mounted ski rack which you can buy for about $80.00 if you shop around on line. Just google SKI RACKS there are a ton of different listings and prices.
 
Live on Hatteras this is the setup that I use.

Kinnakeettom, that looks nice! I have the Yakima crossbars connected to the factory rails, with the ski holders, the shorter ones. They hold 4 poles easily, even when there are reels attached when actively fishing.

The nice thing about rods on the roof are that you can lock them up, even though they are exposed. You don't waste room inside your vehicle, and it looks pretty good to boot ;)

I have done this. I have one end glued on the other is thread and I can screw on and off the lid.
