So I searched the various reasons why the parking brake light would stay on but none of the recommended fixes worked for me. My brakes feel like they have plenty of life so I knew it wasn't an indicator that I needed new pads and rotors, brake fluid level was fine as well.
I noticed today that when I pressed down hard on the parking brake lever that the light would turn off so I knew something was screwy down there. I took the console apart and saw that there was a green and white wire going to the base of the lever, whenever I unplugged the wire the parking brake light would turn off so I knew this was where I needed to focus. Then I noticed a button on the top of the base similar to the button on your fridge that turns the light on and off when the door opens and closes. This button was rotated too much to the rear of the car so that the parking brake lever missed the button completely. I simply rotated this button so that it was vertical and that solved my problem. For the first time since I have owned the runner, all my dash lights are off!
