fj cruiser 6" install on a 4th gen.

all finished still have my 285's on since I haven't found a tire I like yet. thinking pro comp at I really don't need a mud terrain like these trail grapplers but we'll see what I come across. still waiting for my rear shocks I chose to go with the pro comp rear shock the es9000, I've run pro comp before on my other vehicles and liked them so they should soften things up in the rear. also I had to add a 1.25 rough country bolt in rear spacer and the truck is about 1" taller in the rear. I had to add that spacer because I'm running tacoma trd front springs. I also use spc camber caster bolts to replace the front lower control arm bolts I had to cut out and they worked great and had a great price 80.00 for both sides.

Looks good. Make sure you let me know about those rear shocks maybe we'll get together and compare ride quality to see if the pro comps make for a softer ride compared to the rough country s

What are you ordering from Summit? I am a nitto dealer, I can get mickeys and pro comps, toyos ect. I'm in philly. And I do mounting and balancing.

We can take this to pm if you need more info and pricing.

I ordered my rear shocks. but I'd like to get some info on tires from you definitely. I'm either lookin for a straight 35x12.50r18 or 305/70r18 wanna see what's available. I wanna stay away from the nitto this time, it's a great tire but my 33's weight as much as a 35 would.

Wow! New here, this was the first post I read and already found what I want! I bought an '05 Sport Edition V8 4X4 last month with Gibson Cat-Back exhaust and K&N filter, and all I have been able to find is the spacer lifts, or that super expensive Icon lift that still only gives you 3" of lift. I knew there had to be something out there that would work as it is such a simple suspension compared to many. Will take me some time to save the money, but thanks everyone for the great info, especially slowteg97! I live in the Northern Michigan area, not Upper Peninsula, and we have a ton of woods/trails/mud/sand in this area, not to mention the snow.
A couple questions though:
1. Do the 6" coilovers fit right in and get rid of that huge spacer?
2. Wouldn't a heavier off-road bumper on the back help the harsher ride back there, as well as maybe spare tire carrier on back and maybe a roof rack?
3. I seen someone talking about King 2.5" shocks, which are freakin awesome! Are those actually available to bolt in or does it require some fab work?
4. Does anybody know of any headers for the V8?? Seems weird that there aren't any headers or superchargers for the 4.7L V8 engine. I know it's healthy, really healthy, but just seems weird.
Thanks guys! Lovin this forum already! :first:

t-man, the 6" coil over do
fit right in. a lot of guys on the fj forums make this switch later down the road. rad flo 2.5 seem to be what some guys in the fj forums are using but I'm sure you can go with king also as long as the length is right. idk if adding a heavy rear bumper is gonna fix a harsh ride. from the info
I've gathered it is due to the shocks so a set of rear shocks for 100.00- 400.00 seems a better choice rather then a crazy expensive rear bumper. as far as super chargers and headers for your truck which I've never researched aftermarket upgrades for v8 so I'm just gonna guess but If they make a supercharger for the tundra that has the 4.7 chances are it should work in the 4runner and for headers you may be able to use tundra headers if they make them. I mean if you wanna be the lab rat ya gotta take a chance. if it were me I'd by the cheapest set of tundra headers which would probably be obx and give it a shot. it seems aftermarket headers for the v6 stay snug to the motor so I don't see why it would change for the v8 so the chance of running into a clearance issue should be minimal.

Ya, have started researching about the headers from a Tundra. I have seen a post somewhere online that they don't fit, clearance issue's I think it was, but will keep looking. Realistically I doubt a supercharger is going to happen. I don't need it for off-roading, I already have so much power in this thing it's nuts. I can burn most little tuner cars that "think" they are bad as can be already. I do wish I had the model where I could switch to 2WD only. Mine is full-time 4wd, but it's cool. Makes for some awesome launches at the stop light! lol
I do want the bumpers front and rear eventually. They offer tons of protection and huge clearance too, but you are right about them being crazy expensive! Ugh.
Will take lots of research, cause this will continue to be a daily driver, but still be a good trail rig as well. and towing is a must as well.

The coilovers meant for 6" lifts cost just as much as the whole Icon stage 1 kit bud. So if you think the Icon kit is "super expensive" wait till you add on the extras for the 6" lift. "Just 3" of lift", this statement makes it sound like you need to do more research instead of going straight for maximum lift and tire size.

I miss stated that. For 3" of lift I don't warrant the price of the Icon lift personally. They have some nicer ones that replace control arms and such, but still only 3" of lift. Where I come from most guys are running full-size rigs with 38's or bigger, but I do know that these things are awesome off-road and I have done some minor testing of my own on it as well.
My point is, if I am going to spend 5K on suspension components for my lift, I want to run 35's and not worry about it. I believe that without a SAS what you have done is perfect. Did I explain that better? Not always the best at that. lol

Edit: Whoops, was thinking slowteg97 quoted me, but you get the jist.

What about running an Icon C/O with a 3" spacer on top for the front?

That isn't a bad idea either. Will definitely keep it in mind. Would be really cool if there was some front and rear long arm kits, but these do get some pretty good flex too.

Okay, you need to get that thought out of your head. You aren't paying per inch. This isn't penis surgery.

Anyways, I see you're in Michigan. Where do you go wheeling where you would need to run 35's? Silver Lake dunes?

Lol, no don't have penis envy. :D
I live north of there quite a bit, up in Traverse City. We have some really good mud holes, lots of sand too which doesn't need a lift, and tons of hills. Mostly mud though, and rocks.
