FJ Cruiser side sun visors for 5th Gen 4Runner

I was in the dealer the other day, waiting for my 5k service. On the floor was a nice FJ that I checked out. My first impression was "Glad I bought the 'Runner."

I also noticed a cool feature in the FJ. The side grab handles, above the doors, have an integrated flip down sun visor.

I am pretty tall, and the regular sun visors with extension don't help me at all.

It looks like these units would bolt right into the 4Runner, which would also keep with Toyota's commonality objectives. I asked the parts guy if they would fit, but he was 12 so he couldn't help.

Has anyone tried this? Where can I find new interior parts?

IDK however the cheapest route would be find salvage yard & try em out ? And camelback toyparts usually pretty cheap .

I also found some new ones on ebay from a dealer. I ordered these because it was obvious they came with the longer mounting bolts. The dealer has more:

Did you get side grip handles as well?

So, when you get these, and if they mount up without issue, take some pictures and post them.
Man, I hope they fit!

as far as the grab hadle on the drivers a pillar, i noticed that 4th gen 4runner have them and FJs have them...has anyone looked there to see if they're prepped for a handle to be installed?

When I pulled my A pillar cover off, I don't recall seeing any fixture for them to bolt to under the cover.

The cover comes right off in about 2 minutes if you want to look.

One of the biggest little features I miss about my FJ when I bought the 4Runner! Kudo's for thinking of this, I totally forgot about them. Sub'd

I used them for their intended purpose about twice in seven years with my FJ. I found them more useful to hold sunglasses and a garage door opener. But, then, I hope they fit, as any mod is a good mod.

The closest measurement I can get from the Grip handles on my 14 T4R is 6 1/4".
Also, since there is an indentation of the headliner there, wondering if this will be an issue if the bolt pattern is correct.

Second pic... found on the net of FJ with the visor down, appears the location is higher on the FJ as well...

Someone with a FJ that has them, can you take a quick measurement center to center of the bolts that hold your side grip handles on?

I popped the caps of and did a rough measurement, did not remove the handle/shade assembly. It is approximately 6.25 inches. Same as your measurement.

Sweet. This looks useful, ridiculously simple, and (relatively) dirt cheap. Great find, OP. Glad to see how they come out, as I'll likely follow your lead on this.

The visors are here. I'll take some pics later. My first impressions are:

They are larger than I expected. Since there is no indentation in the headliner, they take precious headroom. This might be overcome with a heat gun.

There is a gap at the top of the visor, probably for some kind of clearance. This makes them useless at my eye level.

They did not come with the grab bars, but the holes line up fine. Two alignment tabs in the back of the mounting plate will need to be cut off.

It is very unlikely that I will proceed with this mod. Almost new visors for sale, cheap.
