FJ springs vs 5th gen springs

Also asked this in the 5th gen forum but as anyone had fj springs and 5th gen springs side by side. Some report the fj springs are a little longer and a heavier spring rate than the 5th gen some report it the other way. Not a lot of concrete numbers out there one way or the other.

I had fj springs in my 4th gen for years and loved them! Looking to put a set in my 5th gen if in fact they are stiffer. I know they won't do much for lift if any just looking for a little stiffer than I have now to go along with some 5100's.

Still trying to find out the rates and lenght of the two if anyone has the info.

I've made it to the end of the internet and can't find any concrete numbers. Even called toyota tech and they couldn't tell me.

Weird. I guess the 5th gen is supposed to be on the left? What years were involved there?

This is a pic of 2013 5th gen SR5 rear springs. An extra coil compared to the 5th gen springs in your pic, just like the FJ springs.

Just confirming that the FJ are slightly thicker and taller than the 5th gen rear springs.

I'll bet in a lot of cases the provenance of any given set of springs is suspect. Sellers know people want "FJ" springs.

My seller worked at a local dealership and swore he watched the rear springs being removed from a brand new FJ. I suppose it could have been a mistake but he was a car salesman -- you do the math.

Anyway, I did a huge amount of footwork to confirm that what I had on my hands were 5th gen SR5 springs. Btw, bar thickness is only one factor affecting spring rate. By itself, it doesn't mean much.

My take is that they are the same as FJ springs with the possible exception of the rears being slightly shorter. thebwlife's assessment in this thread turned out to be right on the money.

I'm trading in my 4runner. Don't worry, I'm getting another. Don't ask why, I'm silly. But regardless, I'm pulling my mods off and getting her as close to stock as make sense. So I did the FJ spring swap maybe 7k mi ago. I also had a 3/4 in spacer in the rear so I decided to pull that and my FJ springs to bring over to my new 4runner when I get it. I couldn't find any stock springs, but got a stock set of rear coils from a 2016 TEP. I was going to swap in the 5th gen springs and keep the FJ, because the data isn't really there on the FJ springs.

Well, much to my surprise, the 5th Gen springs are taller. I know that may be deceiving over performance.But regardless, I ended up leaving the FJ springs in there and keeping the 5th Gen Springs. Thought I would share since I was so surprised.

JB, did you put 5th gen springs front and back? I put FJ springs, although I can't guarantee they were FJ springs, on one of my 2007 4Runners and I got a little lift from them. Can't remember exactly how much. Maybe 3/4 of an inch. I also replaced all four shocks with KYB OEM style shocks. This one rides a hair stiffer, but in a good way, than my other 2007 4Runner with stock springs and the same KYB shocks.

Yes, front and back. Got between 3/4 and 1inch of lift in front, and between 1/2 and 3/4 in the back. Old springs had 115,000 very hard miles on them.

Any chance you have a profile photo of this JB? I have 2017 5th gen springs in the trunk of my car with 5100's ready to go in after christmas, just waiting for my mechanic to open up some time to do the timing belt as well.
