FJ Summit 2014 or... ?

So, while we were at the FJ Summit this past summer, myself, [MENTION=51030]joneseyyy[/MENTION], and [MENTION=69716]wdlsmaerw[/MENTION] (btw, Will - do you have any idea how difficult it is to "mention" your username?) were talking about whether or not we would return to the FJ Summit in 2014. We all had a great time the past two years, but between those two years we've met all the vendors, done all the trails, and we all usually end-up doing our own trail runs with [MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] and other folks as well.

So, we raised the question: where would we go next year if not the Summit?

My thought was Glacier National Park. SeattleMike provided some insight into the area for me before my trip a couple of years ago, and I only got to explore a small (but absolutely stunning) area of the entire park. Couple that with the beauty of that entire area of the US (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming) and we could organize a pretty good little trip.

Any thoughts?

The wifey and I were planning on driving out to the summit this year from CT. Depending on how much time we could get away for we would definitely be up for doing that trip if you guys would have us instead of the summit.
 
I'm wanting to do some type of big meet this year. I was planning on the fj summit. I'd be interested in maybe Summit County, CO or Rocky Mountain NP area, but for me Glacier is just too far.
 
Are there any places in say...the mid-west that are as spectacular looking as Moab, UT or Ouray, CO? I am from the east coast and really want to try and make it out that way at least once in this lifetime, but even UT/CO is already a tight stretch as far as driving distance goes (especially since the wife doesn't drive, lol).

Actually being able to meet up with you guys and ride some trails together would definitely be extra browine points with the wife, since she's afraid of going alone anywhere off road after I got us lost on a trail for a few measly hours :rolleyes:
 
I'm planing on the fj summit this year. That is if the army will let me. I never know what's going to happen that far ahead.
 
Been to Glacier and would absolutely go again. There's simply too much terrain for only a few days of staying there. Besides, there may not be much of a glacier soon enough. That's my vote! Keep me in the loop.
 
What's the time frame? I am planning a pretty big trip around June from Durango up to Yellowstone, over through Idaho to Seattle, then down the west coast to California, Yosemite and back through Nevada, Utah.
Anyway not a super defined route but I would definitely love to see glacier national park. Would be sick if there was a Toyota meet to catch there!

Figured as much, lol. Sooo are you askin' to be my tour guide and recovery vehicle if/when I finally make it out there? :)

I might send you a PM if things start looking more realistic on my end as far as me actually going out there, for some trail information and recommendations, if you don't mind.
 
Becca and I would absolutely love to get out to Glacier this summer if we can squeeze it in with the wedding/honeymoon travel (I am also flirting with Chasing the Baja 1000 next Nov...)

Sure. I'm not far from I70 at the Utah/Colorado border. <2 hours to Moab or Ouray.
 
Does Glacier actually have any off road trails that are legal to go on, or would we be stuck to the regular roads with all the other tourists??

I'd be more interested in ........... the Rubicon...... and there are some great trails around Tahoe too. Plenty of Ca. guys on here too.Maybe on the way back south from Glacier and the Northwest as I hav'nt seen those states at all either except from the air and would love to.
[MENTION=1422]the_josh[/MENTION] has run the Rubicon a couple of times in his 4th Gen and maybe could be talked into leading it.:cool:

I didn't get the whole month of July off for vacation like the past 10 years as I got moved back to the RR gear box shop here at work and 2 other guys with more senority then me took their VC the first 2 weeks of July.
I did get the 3rd week of July which is the FJ Summit week off , 2nd two weeks in June and the spring break week off in March. I floated my last week so can move it to whenever others are'nt off or add it to the other weeks if available.

We have the rubicon penciled in for the 2nd or 3rd week of August. Although I'm looking into shipping the truck out or at least back as I'm not too keen on another cross country drive.

Not exactly certain yet, but around the Summit time in July seems to be when people can get free.

Rubicon is a great idea, too! I'll do some research on the logistics.
 
Keep me in the loop as well...trying to get transferred to the Denver office anyhow so hopefully by then it won't even be a cross country drive!
