FJ Summit 2017

I didn't get on the forums too much during the summit simply because I didn't have time. I'll post some pics below but all the good pics are still on the camera. I'll try to get some on here.



All the trails were open but there was definitely more snow compared to the last two years.



I agree with that. There were some over the top rigs up there along with half of texas on their UTVs. There is definitely a "scene " atmosphere there but I feel it's a great event and the timing seems to work for us.

People should keep in mind FJ Summit is more about the "scene" then about enjoying solitude that week. If you're a CO native, you know that on a random weekend, the San Juans offers a respite compared to the front range near Denver. However, on even weeks like FJ, people from *cough *cough Texas and other states swarm the area with their "once a year" offroad trips and bling bling builds. The trails don't tend to be difficult at all, but they are amazingly beautiful. Hence the draw of the crowds....+the vendors. Just enjoy it for what it is - but if you want to enjoy the real splendor of the San Juans...don't go on FJ Summit week. It's more or less a community car show in the mountains (ableit the most amazing mountains in the country).

As a Texan/Coloradoan/Texan(again) take pity on us! Our state is boring and hot!

That's my FJ in the middle of the front row. I slept in and somebody else took it down there for the group picture. I did see by far the coolest 1st gen. 4-runner I've ever seen drive through town one day while we were there. I don't think it was there for the Summit though.

Simply badass FJ. Pretty sure I've read some build threads on it as well. The amount (and quality) of work is amazing.

I saw a red/orange 1st gen that was shortened with a 5.0 ford v8 on 40's. Almost too nice to take on the trail.

The one I mentioned was orange so probably the same one. Unbelievably nice vehicle.

Quick question at [MENTION=147492]zefram47[/MENTION]. Why would you spend that kind of dime on your rig and not go with larger tires? You've done it all it seems but that? Seems like a different approach starting from gears, locker/s etc and larger tires. What made you go that way? Not talking shit just curious.

I hadn't originally planned to build it this far in the eight months I've owned it...just came together quicker than I'd expected. I bought tires the first week after I got it, 32s, as I wasn't planning on the lift right away. Very soon after, I went for armor and did the skids and sliders. With that, I could play around and do whatever I wanted without worrying about much damage. That was all done by Thanksgiving last year. The lift didn't go on until May, and the bumper/winch happened at the beginning of July. I'm only going to go to 33s, but with 10k miles on them, it wasn't worth moving up just yet. Only reason to go larger than 33s is if you want to do more serious crawling, and that's not my intention. Even the 32s have been fine for the trails around here and other than looking a little small, I don't care. Being a Trail, it already has a rear locker, and I'm unlikely to do anything where I'd want a front locker with IFS...ATRAC will likely be enough. More importantly, it's not a dedicated trail rig and nothing I've done has ruined the ride on the road and it still makes a great daily / highway cruiser when I decide not to drive the "race car".
