I just bought a New FJ spring/strut set for the front end for $40.50 including shipping. Does anyone know where I can find a cheap set for the rear? I havent found anything on ebay.

Sorry to intrude on your thread, but I had a question regarding the same thing. Is there a certain set of springs/sruts that us 4runner guys need from the FJC? Ive seen different colors, packages, etc discussed on the FJC forums. Which gives the firmer ride and slight lift for the 4runner?

Camdz I dont have a clue, Im going into this project blind. My shocks are shot so I just decided to replace it all cheap with an FJ set up. Hopefully someone can shed some light on your question for us.

The shocks and springs you fellas want are from the 4WD FJ cruiser; they'll give you the slight leveling of the front end and the small overall lift, not to mention the nicer ride.

I just ordered a front and rear FJ suspension for $110 to the door from eBay so It should be installed within the next 2 weeks.

Update: Recieved FJ rear components, Daystar 2.5/1/5 ordered and should be in Friday. Only downside is A$$hole in Washington state has yet to ship my front struts, the auction ended 11 days ago! oh well. If all goes well everything should be done this next tuesday. Will post pics when complete.

Looking forward to the update. I am getting the 4WD Bilstein setup from an FJC guy, but cant decide if I should do spacers also.

I almost posted on Tuesday asking for pictures, but figured Id give you some time! Did you get everything put on? My FJC suspension will be here tomorrow, so I will be itching to install it. I'm leaning towards the toytec front leveling kit or the daystar kit you are using. I know they are quite different, but i cant decide.

Hey camdz. I have the rear components and the DS sitting in the garage. Ive had some bad luck with the front struts though. The guy I bought them from on ebay has been jerking me around for 2 weeks now. First the struts were new, then after I paid I was informed that they had 1,000 mi on them. Not a big issue to me so I said to send them. A week passed and I wanted a tracking #, but he hadnt sent them yet do to a week long family emergency, which is fine stuff happens. I then asked him to ship them ASAP having already paid my shipping which was $20. Yesterday I sent him a message again wanting a tracking # and he still hadnt sent them. Turns out that the guy went to the PO the next day and he miscalculated his shipping by $18 and wants me to pay for his mistake. Ive filed a Paypal dispute claim to either have the struts shipped for what I have already paid or to get my money back. Either way Im pissed!

Thats no good. Sorry to hear, and Id be pissed too. Ive been lucky with ebay, but you never know anymore. $38 for front struts is steep! UPS would probably be cheaper. My springs/shocks/struts (all 4 corners) weighed 42 pounds. Out of curiousity I calculated shipping on our UPS scale at work and that would cost $25 to be shipped to me from Washington. We get discounted postage obviously, but still sounds like hes asking too much or isnt doing something right. Either way its his mistake, that you shouldnt be responsible for.

basically there are 3 different types of shocks from FJ,
1.) basic, black Tokico, nothing really special of them.
2.) Off-Road package, silver Bilstein, good, and plenty of them out there.
3.) TRD, red Bilstein, best but so few were made consider TRD FJ is very rare.

all the coils are the same.

If you are going to buy Bilstein I would buy actual Bilstein shocks and struts . The ones from the FJ TRD or OR package are Bilstein "branded" shocks which means they are mfg'd buy Bilstein BUT to Toyota's specs just like the Tokico or any other shock that comes stock on a vehicle . They are always compromised to off road ability and on road comfort the way Toyota wants them , not how Bilstein specs them . Still good shock though.

No FJ stuff is not compatible with Xreas . I pulled my Xreas and put FJ Tokico shock and struts / springs on and it handles with a 1" lift in the front (topout spacer 1/2") on my truck does ride slightly stiffer , but IMO has less nose dive and less body roll than with Xreas. Just my .02 :)

i think you're missing the point, people, like me, put FJ suspension on 4th gen 4Runner's because it's an easy fix to greatly improve the ride, get a small lift in a ridiculously cheap way. them FJ owners are throwing them away anyway. i got all 4 corners of the OR package shocks and coils(assembled front, 3000 miles) for the price of 1 aftermarket Bilstein shock. because the front are all assembled, i didn't need to rent a coil compressor(very very dangerous tool), i was able to swap out in my driveway by myself. and the lift is minimal, i didn't pay or an alignment, either, it's just not need.

don't forget about warranty, a lot of the 4th gen's are still under factory warranty, if you have some drive line issues and need warranty work, when they jack it up see the aftermarket suspension, i'd bet my house the stealership will give you a whole pile of BS. but with all Toyota parts, not many yahoo's would know the are not original.
