FJ vs. Tacoma springs?

Are the tacoma trd springs the same as tacoma springs from a pre runner would be? I have a set of pre runner springs I'm going to put on and was expecting maybe an inch from them..

So with trd springs and bilstein 5100s set at .85" it would net about 2.85"?

I have some trd springs with 5k miles and biltein 5100s on the way. trying to decide what rear coils I need to be close to level. I wouldn't mind some rake.

I have a 2006 v6 4x4
 
no they are not the same jsmith21. I just swapped out a set of base tacoma 4x4 springs and struts for the trd bilstein set up and the the truck gained an additional 1/2" lift and the ride quality is much smoother now on the highway. his truck was an extended cab on 33's
 
in about a month, i will do an install/write up on swapping over TRD Coil/shocks from Tacoma, and depending on rear shock mounting type, may swap rear shocks as well if they fit, if i can find a set of FJ rear coils that would be ideal as well.
 
I am currently running Moog FJ springs on Bil. 5100's up front, and they are a bit soft off pavement. On the road, they are great. Off road, they aren't stiff enough. Will a 4WD Tacoma spring be stiffer up front, or do I need to go with the full-on TRD Tacoma Spring?
 
Looking at the pictures, Tacoma is a progressive spring vs linear spring for FJ.

Picked up a set of 2012 TRD 4x4 Tacoma sprigs and yellow/blue bilsteins today locally for $150 only 700 miles(approximately) can't even tell they were ever mounted.

I will probably replace the xreas and Daystar 2.5/1.5 with these and some rear fj coils as soon as I get the new rear bushing for the shocks.

Anyone have a set of rear fj coils they want to get rid of on the cheap? If not I was gonna order the moogs.
 
Does anyone have a pic of a runner with just the taco swap? I've find several posts with people saying they are going to install and follow up but no one has any pics posted that I can see. I'm trying to figure out if I should ditch the days star or try to run both.
 
I found someone selling a complete suspension from a 2014 Tacoma TRD. Can I move this over to my 2008 V8 4runner and get a better ride while leveling out the truck? I see some folks using Tacoma TRD suspension parts, but not sure about the years that are compatible with 4th gen.

yes the front struts and springs will swap over but not the rear shocks. be aware that you will most likely end up nose high with that set up may want to get yourself a set of fj springs for the rear.

I love this forum! I just picked up a suspension from a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport V6 4x4 that I am going to swap with the XREAS in My 2006 4R SE 4x4 V6. I ordered the proper bushings and have a set of 2013 FJ rear springs on the way. Do I have this right that this setup should make my 4R level? I don't want to end up nose high. I don't need any spacer in the rear do I?
 
Guys need more pics and details on the tacoma Trd suspension swaps.

Could I run the TRD springs and shocks and keep my spacer lift installed? Or would this be too much lift for the cvs?
 
I have the TRD springs and struts on the front and TRD shocks in the rear with FJ springs. What spacers are you running? I would assume a Daystar or equivalent would be pretty extreme without a diff drop or UCA's. My CV's are just about parallel without spacers, I am not sure at what angle is TOO much. Hope that helps.

Tacoma Trd springs

The cv axles won't be an issue as the Tacoma guys don't have this issue.... However it would benefit you to run uca's at full droop the stock uca will make contact with the spring. I was running a 3" spacer in the front with Tacoma trd springs. I recommend camburg uca's you can go with the uniball or oem ball joint which is the route I chose. They are very well built, I just don't recommend light racing because I've heard to many bad things about them.
 
I'm currently running the daystar front leveling spacer on my 2007 SR5. I just picked up 2015 TRD Offroad front springs/bilsteins, rear Tacoma bilsteins, and have FJ rear springs coming. I also got the UCA's from the Tacoma in the deal.

Could I run the TRD springs/bilsteins PLUS the daystar spacer with the Tacoma UCAs? I'm assuming both would be too much with the stock UCAs. Will the Tacoma UCAs fit and/or give me an advantage over stock???
 
The uca are all the same so your wasting time changing those and yes you can run the day star lift with the Tacoma springs. You will wanna invest in after market uca's, also the Tacoma bilsteins for the rear do not work on 4runners. The lower mounting hole is way to small. U can pick up a set of 5100's that will do the job nicely
 
OK, so I installed the tacoma springs/shocks in the front today and they are awesome. Major upgrade from stock in terms of handling and ride.

BUT - I'm noticing a slight lean to the driver's side since they've been on. Sits about 1/2-3/4 inch higher on the passenger side. I did some research and read that people talk about the "tacoma lean" which sounds the same.

Could that be what I'm seeing? Would the 4Runner lean like the tacoma with the same springs up front??? Seems weird that it is normal, but if other people are seeing it I won't worry too much.
