FJ80 Wheels + Tundra Big Brakes

Can I run FJ80 Wheels with Tundra Big Brakes (231mm) USING a 1/4" spacer? Or do I need to get a bigger spacer? I do not want to shave any of the caliper.

Great question. And I believe the answer is yes, they'll clear with the 1/4" spacer but wait for others to chime in to verify this.

And I'm not quite sure but the last I recall this topic the 199s fit with 1/4" spacer but not the 231s. I could be wrong.

I ground the inside of the wheel to clear mine. Took some time, but it worked perfectly. The LC wheels are forged so I'm not to worried about messing up the strength of the wheel.

I think 1/4" may work but they will be close to possibly not clearing... if u want to be sure u could get 1/2" spacers... i have the 231mm tundra calipers and FZJ80 rims but i have 1.25" spacers so i have no problems.

The only bad thing with going 1/2" is you lose a lot of stud thread. I would not suggest going this route unless you bought longer studs.

I had a 1/4" spacer and 199mm and they fit with about 1/8" of clearance. Not sure about the 231's.

Fj80 wheels are 15" so Im assuming you're talking about the fzj 16x8. I just recently found out mine wouldn't fit without a spacer so I'm sticking with the 4runner brakes. My rotors are warped and have been for a year now. I finally ordered some brembo blanks and new pads today.

I have the 231mm tundras and I recently got some of the 80 series forged 16" wheels. I don't really want to run spacers. Do most people only grind the wheels or do some grind the calipers or a combo of both? Any issues with grinding the calipers? I'd rather just grind the calipers instead of all 4 wheels.

Bumping an old thread, but this might help somebody. I've got the 199mm Tundra brakes and had to make my own 1/8" spacers to make it work. Had a bent FJ-80 wheel, and cut off the hoop to check the clearance. The 1/8" spacer was enough to clear the piston pots, but I still had to grind a bit off the stone deflector fin. Definitely do NOT grind the pots, that's nuts IMHO.

Sorry, 80-series wheels are sand-cast. Very few OE wheels are forged, Acura NSX being the only one that comes to mind at the moment.

Just curious but what is the visual giveaway of casting vs forging? I have always heard those wheels were forged but never saw any Toyota proof.

for the love of christ DONT GRIND ANYTHING. do it the right way, get longer studs and do slip on spacers. do you really want a wheel, break, or stud failure on the front of the car doing 70 on the freeway with a high center of gravity???
