Flapping Engine Splash Guard

So I've been having some sort of flapping or clicking noise coming from the driver's wheel well area. It used to squeak but stopped that when I replaced the OEM clips on the engine splash shield with better ones. The dinky shield does still have some play in it so I'm assuming that it what the sound is.

Does anyone know of any decent replacement that could eliminate this noise?

ORRRR, maybe it is something I am not thinking of.

It is very common. Mine went away once I put some rubber washers on the pins to tighten up the fit a bit. Others have used RTV silicone so there’s not room for it to vibrate and rattle. My noise is completely gone and has stayed away for some time now.

Cool, do you happen to know what washers you grabbed or were they just general rubber washers?

I don't see how the silicone would work... unless they are coating it on and not driving for 24 hours?

Just basic rubber washers from hardware store, they were pretty thin. You can’t fit anything too thick.

I cut squares of double sided tape and then poked the fastener back through.

Did you replace all of the clips? I was going to just swap out the top two clips on each side that most posters have identified as the noisy ones. Thanks for the links.

I just ordered a set of these. The price is better than the saturday I'd waste trying to do the same thing.
My OEM ones have stretched and sagged a LOT.

that upper right one is the noisiest SOB of them all. That metal tab acts like an amplifier

That’s a good find. Will have to get some of those soon.

The clips holding mine on fell off and it flaps and rumbles as the truck goes around.

We highly recommend the heavy duty ones from Rad Rubber. We put them on our FJ after the original ones became fully disintegrated. On our 4R we changed them out within just a few hundred miles from new. Much thicker then the originals, fit perfect, and all new fasteners. :thumb:
