Always carry a Streamlight Pro-Polymer Luxeon 3C, Inova X1, and 3,000,000 cp Brinkmann 12V spot.
When camping I usually throw in my Gladius (w/Surefire FM34 beamshaper), Princeton Tec Apex headlamp, and River Rock Nichia Jupiter Lantern.
(The Mags were retired several years ago, perhaps I will "hot-wire" one someday)

I use this for the vehicle and home use. Perfect for hooking up the back up generator in pitch black conditions. I use lithium AA batteries in this. The batteries are good for -40F all the way to I think 140F. I have used this light at -30 degrees before, and it has a regulated circuit. Great thing about lithium batteries is when it sits in the vehicle at extremely cold temps, and hot temps, these batteries work just as well as if the weather was mild.

A Surefire L1 in the glove box, and a Streamlight Propolymer 4AA Luxeon with Lithium AA cells in one of the rear compartments.
Both lights run on Lithium cells for good shelf life, and both are high power white LED lights for good runtime and reliability.
Mag Lite? Whats that?

You are comparing manufacturers. Sort of like saying what's better, Toyota or Honda. Better to compare specific models and then only again against your own individual needs. Both manufacturers offer distinct lights not matched by the other.
Both Streamlight and Surefire make some great lights along with several other manufacturers including Night-Ops, Wolf Eyes, Fenix, Princeton TEC, Inova, Nuwai, Peak LED, Pelican, and many others
Although very good quality, many flashaholics do not feel that Surefires are a good value, especially when compared against some of the new lights coming out of China.
Check out the new $70 Fenix P1D-CE withe the new Cree 7090 XR-E LED. A regulated light with five output levels and up to 135 lumens - all in a light less than three inches long

I like Surefires , BUT there are a lot of other great mfg's out there. Surefires are very expensive lights. Even though I like them I think they are over priced.
Streamlight is a good value , as well as Mag light for the money, others like mentioned above are great too.
I was thinking of getting a Streamlight Rechargable and hard wiring it up in the 4R. I do prefer lithium lights though .
I'm wanting to get a good LED. Any suggestions ?
The days of big flashlights seem to be over , these little buggers really can pump out some light.

1) Battery preference (CR123, AA, AAA, C, etc, Also, primary or rechargeable)
2) How important is battery life.
3) How important is regulated circuitry to you (constant output level vs. battery life)
4) Size. Will it be an everyday carry, home, or vehicle unit,
5) Do you need/want a beam with more flood/spill or throw?
6) One output level or several (some even have strobe and/or SOS modes)
7) Do you prefer a "twisty" or "clicky" to turn on/off
8) $ budget

The 4D Maglite has a permanent place between the driver's seat & center console and the Surefire 6P pretty much lives in my coat pocket this time of year.

Check out INova Lights, they have solid aluminum bodies and really take a beating. We took some to the desert on our last trip and they worked great. The color of the light takes some getting used to (it's kind of blueish) but the battery life of the LED's can't be beat.

The Pelican light I have is the Pocket Sabre 1820 , its nice and bright and focused. The batts go dim quickly , and loses a little of its luster . its a 3 cell. I dont like having to twist the head to get light , prefer a push button switch in the back.
How much brighter are the led lights and can the cast a long beam like the Surefire can ?

Their newer MagLED version is a big improvement, but for the size it is still not an "efficient" light - unless you need it's size for use as a defensive tool.
