I started a thread like this a while ago about what type of flashlights people have in the 4R's , it was pretty interesting with all the new technology out there, just wanted to see if anyone go anything new an extraordinary ?

Anyone have a Blackhawk Gladius ?

What are you using ?

I've got 2 Surefire combat lights. Looking for something new.

Led Lenser is what I use. Need to order a couple more for the house. These things are WICKED bright, it blows my six D cell maglights I have away, and its smaller than the lenght of your hand and fits right in your pocket. I usually use mine at work though, but plan to have one in each vehicle and a couple in the house. I bought mine off the Matco tool truck, but found I paid almost TWICE as much once I looked up their site. Damn tool trucks!!!
 
It's awesome , plus I"m into flashlights and emer. services for the USM service.

Not that its any better but can get it for $170
 
the question now is, how long does it last in terms of battery life? i guess it doesnt matter since one can onlt spend 10 bucks versus 95.


now on to radioshack, for the experiment.:)
 
Mine's a 3D-cell LED Maglite. Plenty bright enough and with plenty of heft to be useful for all sorts of emergencies :)

I also use rechargeable Streamlight flashlights at home -- as good as Surefire but half the price and with better runtime (and used by many SF cops, which is a nice endorsement). I just can't stomach spending more than $60 on a flashlight since I don't hunt animals or people.
 
I'm not sure how long it'll last as I've only had it for about 2 weeks now and I"m not constantly using it. The biggest cost associated to it are the batteries. I brought it into work and everyone was amazed how bright it was. I work in an office and the lighting is alreay pretty bright and when we turned it on it still illuminated whatever we pointed it at. The bad thing is that the beam can't be focused, but what can you expect from a cheapo flashlight?

The vid says $4, but I spent $10 for 2 batteries and you need 3 so I had to buy two packages. The krypton bulbs were cheap at about $1.30 and the flashlight itself was $6. So it turned into a $30 project...

For 8 bucks more you could have bought a Led Lenser light like mine, that's so bright it has a warning label on it about the intensity lol.

I use it to see inside engines at work, and it's so bright, that it almost blinds me sometimes if it reflects off a shiny machined surface back at me. I've never seen a flashlight as bright.....
 
Thats a cool link , There are so many hi tech light out there. My Surefire lights are great and bought them both used from people in the USM dept. I know some guys that have spent close to $500 on a flashlight. Thats pretty insane .

The streamlight that pipspeak are talking about are really nice too . A lot of depts use them.

I just like toys like that. The strobe feature on the Blackhawk Gladius if just frickin blinding , its cool. I'll wait until someone on the dept dumps one. Last time I bought a Surefire brand new for $80 that retailed for $269 that someone needed to get rid of.
 
I have a 3 D-cell Maglite. For the size and price, it sucks. But it has nice clip-style mounts that I have installed in my jeep at arm's reach for self-defense, "just in case" it is needed. THAT is the only thing that a maglite has on any of the other expensive smaller ones.

I slide mine right along the drivers seat - handy for whatever. I have also done the $5 three LED bulb retrofit to the mini-mags - very bright. The battery life seems much better for the LEDs, but admitedly haven't been real scientific about it.

Musing: So if we get hit with an electro-magnetic pulse, will it burn all these LED bulbs out, and will therefore be useless? (not that an EMP is ever going to happen of course)
 
I just converted my Mag-light with the 3watt LED Mag-light bulb and WOW! Well worth the $15 for the bulb.

Which mag light model ? I have like 5 of them , I would like to do that . Where did you get the new reflector and bulb ?
 
For the D and C cell mags you can just buy a simple replacement LED bulb for $15-20. No mods necessary... just swap out the old for the new bulb. Huge difference. I bought a new bulb at my local hardware store but you can also find them online.

For the little AA mags it's not so easy. You can get a three-LED aftermarket replacement bulb and reflector but you lose focusing ability. The new LED AA maglites have a totally different head design than the old ones.
 
I got the bulbs at Walmart. Just make sure you get the right bulb for the amount/type of batteries.

And of course, "normal flashlights, probably a few more I can't think of now, AA, AAA types. Same with pocket knives, guns, etc. You know, man toys...

lol:D yep , man toys !!!

I was just at law enforcement supply and looking at a Streamlight Stinger LED , rechargeable . Do you have the chargers in the car or just in the house ?
