So as my threat topic so eloquently states I am have some weird battery light stuff going on. Started the other morning. Started up no light pull out of drive way light comes on half block down the road light goes off. Check battery this morning before start reading 12.5v.

Leave this morning nothing until I am cruising 70 down the freeway and it will flicker on and off at me then once off the freeway came on solid at a light kicked my sub off then the light went off and sub came back on.

Get home tonight and check voltage at idle and we are getting 14.4v turn it off check again 12.98v..

Other posts have said things about the alternator being the culprit. But from what it sounded like their light was solid on. Any ideas or is it the Alt?

Thanks!

Probably NOT the alternator, as you state you're getting 14.4V at idle.

Check it again. Keep checking it.

More than likely, bad battery connection, or bad battery.

I cleaned the posts and terminals last night with the hopes that it could have been the issue. Also sanded down the body and the connectors for the ground thinking maybe that could have also been part of the issue.

It's definitely your alternator. I know this because the alternator always waits to go south until just after you've drained and filled your radiator.

Making your speakers pop off and back on sounds like voltage regulator going out. Your voltage is going too high. Regulator is in the alternator on these so time to tear it up or replace. You'll have to put your meter on it when it happens and see if the voltage spikes to confirm.

So it looks like I need to replace the alt...this means other decisions need to be made.

 • BIG 3
 • CS-144 on a 3rz?
 • Rebuild or buy Reman

It's hard being right all the time.

Big Three can't hurt. I'd find a generator shop to rebuild yours instead of doing the CS-144 conversion though.

Haha nice one KidVermicious. Yeah founda certified used alt off a 99 2RZ for $44 bucks. My wife is picking it up for me today. Then I am going to get my current one rebuilt for higher output.

CHEAP and EFFECTIVE.

The decision to make now is, do I want to drop it in tonight. I really hate having parts sitting around not installed, like my sliders all painted and ready to go. Anyone wanna help me weld on sliders? Free beer, wings and pizza!

Thank you all for the help, it led me down the right path to find things out!

New to me alternator installed. In the 5 miles I have driven, no issues so far!
