Flooded engine

i took my 4runner in some deep water and the front got stuck. it was submerged up to the logo in water for about 20 min. when it was pulled out the alarms started going and the security light was on. we were able to drive it home and let the engine run for another 5 minutes. we disconnected the battery and reconnected it and now it will not start. what should i do to get it started and turn the security system off? PLEASE HELP!

Doesn't really sound like you flooded the engine. To me, seems like you might have messed with the security system by allowing to much contact to water and that is what is screwing with your truck, it probably has an engine immobilizer. I could be wrong, it's just my take on it.

Yeah what NJ said... I'd give her a day or so to dry out and try it again. Is it trying to crank and wont turn over? Or just acting like a dead battery?

Yeah dude, I've gone through water that was up to my grille, or more, and drove through it for a few hours back and forth at Cibolo creek, and doing mudding, trailing with the guys... The water shouldn't completely kill your engine. Check your fuse box for water? Go test your battery, like these gents said. Follow their advise first, if it doesn't work, come on back.

yes it is trying but wont start so it could be a starter problem because i just replaced my starter and it sounds the same as it did when the starter first broke

The engine should be OK if there's no water in the oil and you didn't get any into the air intake. It might have ruined the starter and any other electrical parts that got wet though.
