Floor jack -- how many tons?

I have a Craftsman 3-ton . It was on sale for $39 (regular was like $90) Anyway, make sure that your jack can go high enough to lift the T4R completely so you can remove the tires. My old 1.5 ton was 2 inches shy in letting me remove the tires.

Also realize you are never trying to lift the whole vehicle at once, only a corner or a side so the jack will never see all 4,500 lbs at once.
With all that said I also have a Craftsman 3 ton jack. When I bought mine it came with a set of two jack stands.

I have a 1.5 and a 3ton. The 1.5 is a light aluminum and easy to use. It works fine. If you are taliking about doing 1 tire at a time the most you are jacking would be under 1ton. If you lift the whole rear axle I guess it may go as high as just over a ton. My 1.5 will do everything I need to do. The 3ton doesn't even break a sweat.

i think this is a good spot post this. i sure feel stupid for asking this and all those shop classes were useless but where are the jack points on a 3rd gen 4runner? i took my boards off and the only spot low enough is the stabelizer bar (in the rear) i had to even but boards under it to reach that. also if i was to get a lift obviously the stock jack wont reach it. what would you do? do you just haul this huge jack whereever you go?

The rear location on my '99 is the axle. Not the best design, imo since there is no flat space. Works none the less.
The OEM jack is a bottle style and fits under the rear passenger seat. While it looks a bit dinky, works great and extends pretty high.
You might want to get an owners manual. It's all in there.

hey thanks, ya ive got Owners manual but it shows to jack it by the running boards, but ya i took those off and i dont think id want to even jack it up with those. thats just crazy. so with a small lift do you think the bottle jack would still work?

Now I'm intrigued. I'll go out to the truck and look at the manual. If I have a chance, I'll shoot a photo of the bottle jack.

ill take a pic of mine too. but ya it was wierd i just noticed this but the guy that installed my wheels (i think it was them) jacked it up from the braces on my nerf bars and one bent a little as well as takin a chuck of paint off. i duno?
