Flowmaster super 40 or 50 series

2007 Toyota 4Runner
I can't decide which Flowmaster muffler to get. I don't want anything too loud or too quiet, but I still want it to sound mean. Any suggestions on what to get?

Go with the 40 series. My experience with exhaust is that I always wish it was a little louder, I never wish a car to be quieter.

With the cats in place it won't be too loud either.

I have the 40 on my 2005 V8 and i almost wish I had done the super 44 which is even louder. Not much drone even with resonator delete, and nearly zero drone on highway. I would definitely recommend.

I had both and could not stand the drone on the freeway with the 40. Went to a 50 and love it. Still plenty loud under hard acceleration but no more drone on the freeway

Troy, do you have the part # for the muffler that you used? This is the one i used on my 3rd Gen, "Flowmaster 942451 50 Series Delta Flow Muffler" really liked the quiet idle and no drone when cruising.

Dont know the part number haha. It was a delta flow 50 with 2.5" in and out with a center inlet and offset outlet. Probably the same one you used.

I have this one as well and it's awesome, pretty quiet on idle and nice throaty rumble under acceleration!

I have the 50 series SUV on my 4.7. I listened to a lot of Youtube videos before I made my choice, although even those can be misleading.

If I was younger (i'm 38) I might go with something louder like a 40 series, and still wonder if the non 'SUV' version would give a little more sound. But over all i'm not upset with the 50. It sounds like a V8 should without being obnoxious or 'rednecky'.

I installed the Super 44 on my 2007 V8 Sport Edition and took it off and installed the 50 series. The super 44 was too loud for me.

I have also been wondering about which muffler to get. I don't really want to put the full exhaust system just simply switch the mufflers. Would a 50 series sound right with everything else stock, anyone?

If you want a nice v8 rumble but not too loud, get a magnaflow 18" length muffler, I like mine but wish it was louder

I think the 50 series will sound the best without being obnoxious inside the truck. I'm all for loud exhaust too! I had long tube headers into 2 original 40 series Flowmasters on my 95 F-150 and while it sounded awesome, it was just too much to travel in. I look at the 4Runner as a traveling vehicle, so I think the 50 series will give you that growl you want when you want it. I went with the 50 series just for that reason.

Heres the video that sold me on the 50 series. I think the cell phone being by the muffler makes it sound a little louder than it really is, but pretty close.

50 Series part number is 52557. I'm running it currently, just installed a few weeks ago. Love it! Hardly notice the difference anymore, unless I'm romping on it. Great compromise for sounding mean without drone.

I personally wouldn't want it any louder.

Kind of a subjective question right? I mean, anyone with a 40 series will tell you not bad, sounds great. But anyone who thinks a 40 is too loud will tell you that its a lot louder.

Had Flowmaster Super 50 installed and the resonator removed (bad decision). Drone like crazy. I checked on 4runner forum. The majority of the member states NO drone if you remove the resonator. That is a load of B.S. You have to be tone deaf...if you dont hear the drone at 1800-2500 RPM. Below that RPM band, no drone. Above that RPM band. No drone.
Painful at 2100 RPM...So I Had a Flowmaster 2.5" branch resonator and small Dynomax minibullet (using as a tip) resonator installed. Welded.
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
No drone. Yes.I went overboard with two resonator....But no drone (maybe a hint)....at all RPM band. Step on gas. Nice flowmaster note. Lovely...Now I can cruise without ear plugs.

Hope this helps someone deciding on whether to res delete or not.
