Flowmasters on a 4.7 V8

I installed a 1" leveling kit and 265's on my '06 2x4 V8. I'm getting about 16mpg (down from 18.5). I'm planning to install a K&N COI to help it breathe in, and I'm thinking Flowmaster to help it breathe out, but I don't want an obnoxious truck. I was thinking the 50 Series Delta Flow, but I wanted to see if anyone has installed one on their 4.7 V8 along with a K&N, and if so, how it sounds. Also, what kind of mileage pickup did you see? I'm expecting 3 to 4 mpg with the combination, but I want to properly set my expectations. Thanks!

No personal experience, but I highly doubt you'll see those gains. For most that do a CIA and exhaust, they tend to be more heavy on the gas afterwards and mpg doesn't increase much if any.

I'd be very surprised if you see any noticeable change in mpg.

I think your mileage is worse beause you got a 4.8 litre when the rest of us have 4.7:biggrin2:

maybe 1mpg. 3-4 is unrealistic for those mods

If it was that easy to get an extra 3-4 mpg, Toyota would have done it themselves.

You could do that fitch fuel treatment or snow performance methanol injection.

I have read a lot of reviews of people saying they get 1-2 mpg on the K&N, and 1-2 on the Flowmaster. My dad got around 1 out of his '01 Tundra TRD when he put the K&N CAI on it (he's also at 7000ft, so there's not much air there to begin with). Chevy's get up to 2 with the Flowmaster. I'm trying to see if anyone has done them both on their 4.7. Opinions are good, but I'm looking for tried and true evidence.

Lots of folks try to justify their purchase. But it's not going to happen. Manufacturers spend thousands of dollars per vehicle for a single mpg. If it was that easy, Toyota would have already done it. A V8 getting ~20 mpg? Toyota would have been all over that like white on rice.

I've tried K&N's in multiple cars. I've tried exhausts in multiple cars. I've calculated fuel economy before/after.

Your gains in the fuel economy department with one/the other/or both will be minimal, if that. The money you'd spend on the intake and exhaust would buy quite a bit of gas.

More air = more gas...stoichiometrically speaking.

I had both on my 07 4.7 tundra. No gains in fuel economy at all. i did gain some lower rpm power when towing but that was all

stoichiometrically speaking, I like that. Most would not know what the stoichiometric ratio is (14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel).....

Onto the answer, I have a K & N Drop in and TRD Duals.
My gas milage sucks but my truck sounds great.......

The K&N CAI sounds awesome, highly recommend. I haven't heard a flowmaster in the toyota, but I'd be worried about resonance. That gets annoying quick! I have the Magnaflow cat-back system and I love it. Quiet at idle and on the highway, but when you floor it, it really sounds good- people all turn heads to see where the NASCAR V8 roar is coming from!

I think I got about 1mpg back doing both, but the power picks up and the sound alone is worth the price of the mods.

I'm running the 50 series Flowmaster w/ my '07 Sport V8. Forget the mileage, maybe 1-2 tops, but gotta love that rumble. Rivals any American made V8 in sound when you floor it. Doesn't sound hollow at all. The 50 series drone isn't bad IMHO. At least compared to the 40 series. You won't be disappointed.
