Just today changed lubricant for my 2008 T4R 48K now; the Front & Rear Diff and the Xfer Case. Thanks for all the info on the threads here everyone.
I believe Toyota says 30k to change fluids. I put in Amsol long life synthetic lube, will prob go to 50k but not the 100k they say, I mentally can't picture me going that far without changing lubes.
Tips:
As advised, I made sure to have the upper bolts open first then lower to release fluids. If I cant refill it, dont drain it.
Wear gloves- had leather ones- the bolts are on tight. I bruised fingers getting them open when didnt wear the gloves and its better to have lube on ur gloves then ur hands.
Have your 24mm socket for Xfer case and read diff bolts. Need a 10mm hex key for front Diff bolts. - AFter lifting truck on jackstands I had to run to sears to get the 10mm hex and a 3 n 6" extension for 24mm socket. Thanks honey for being home with the car.
Bought a new pump to pump fluid in. Thank god new lube is not as thick as old gear oil thats hot was molasses!
Put on e-brake, used jackstands, put blocks on rear tires.
Pretty similar to changing them on my 2000 Jeep Grand Chkee.
Front diff n Xfer case color not bad. Rear darker but still not bad color wise. I think its crazy but know of some who up to 100k have not changed their fluids.
Also used a small pipe to put on 10mm hex key for more leverage and power to open bolts.
Combined about a half a day of work - going to get parts thru til putting tools away.
