Flywheel replacement brand

FWIW, I purchased a flywheel from Marlin to go with their HD clutch kit. The flywheel was a LUK. No issues so far (knock on wood). I have had a couple instances of the starter not meshing, but I blame my old worn-out starter for that.
 
Finally pulled out the messed up flywheel.



I'll be resurfacing an oem flywheel I pulled out of another 3rd gen instead of putting in another one from China.
 
Does anyone know how many times the OEM flywheel can be resurfaced? Or is there a minimum thickness?

My OEM flywheel/clutch lasted 330,000 kms and still had life left.
 
You can see from the picture of the two flywheels together that the teeth are totally a different design. Probably a good idea if you have a high milage 5 speed to source a good used oem flywheel before you replace the clutch

I've just bought a new flywheel from Marlin Crawler and noticed the cardboard said Luk on it... Wasn't impressed because I could buy a Luk flywheel from napa for 2/3 of what I paid for the Marlin wheel.

Do you think the Marlin flywheel is the same design as the LUK flywheel? Just rebranded and selling for 50% more because of the name?

Your quote got messed up, so I'm not sure what was the quote, and what was you.
Here's what I do know-
I called Marlin, and talked to the tech about flywheels and clutches when I did my 5 speed swap.
He said they kept having people wanting to buy flywheels with their clutch kits, so they started offering them. He said they are simply LUK flywheels, and when someone orders one, they run down the street to the auto parts store and pick one up. You can get the same LUK flywheel on Amazon for far less- and I did. But if you wanna pay Marlin's guys to drive down and pick it up for you, they're happy to take your money. If you call and talk to them, they'll give it to you straight. They aren't trying to pass it off as anything "performance" or as any kind of upgrade.
He said the LUK is fine for a daily, but he wouldn't run anything but OEM if you were gonna be in the dunes/high speed/high RPM type usage. I don't remember him saying it, but I got the indication anywhere you wanted to be confident it's gonna be balanced 100%.
I wish I had an OEM flywheel, because I hate having inferior aftermarket crap on my rig. But when I was doing my swap, I was in a rush to get it going, and didn't wanna try to source a used unit and have it resurfaced. I also didn't have $400 to spend on a brand new OEM 'wheel.

Hey, thanks for the information, good to know.

I'm doing the clutch next weekend and it's my daily driver so I didn't want to have it off the road for a long time. Just drop the clutch, replace parts then jam it all back together. So I wanted to buy a new flywheel. I figured OEM would be nice but too much $$$. I was considering a Luk wheel, but people gave them a less than stellar review above in this thread...

Anyways, long story short, it would have been good of Marlin to mention on their website that they are just reselling a Luk flywheel... I feel like I got ripped off. Not a huge deal, but I would have picked the part up locally and avoided the huge shipping costs and import fees to Canada had I known it was the same part. I didn't even order my clutch from them....

On a side note, the next time I need a clutch/ flywheel, I will be ordering a LUK one off of rockauto for ~$50 and inspecting the teeth very carefully. If they are cut right, I will use it. When I ran the LUK one for a couple months, I really enjoyed the heavier weight of it over my resurfaced OEM one.

I might even buy a new gear ring from Toyota and install it on the LUK flywheel
