Fml code 12

So pulled codes tonight even though there was no cel and I got code 12. I've read every thread on it. My tac goes to 0 at stop lights. I don't have money or time to chase my ass around on this. I'm going to swap distributors out since we have one sitting at the shop. Any other ideas?

FSM says "Open or short in NE, G circuit; Distributor, Open or short in STA circuit; ECU"

If I'm reading things right (ECU terminals, page FI-119 in the '92 FSM), NE and G are both from the distributor, so if replacing the distributor and checking the connections doesn't fix it, then maybe the wiring from there to the ECU.

So you have no cel but you pulled the code anyway? If that's the case, the code you got was an old code that was no longer being detected. The ecu will store the last two codes even if there isn't any code present.

As for your tach, there sent a cel for that as far as I know. You have another unrelated issue wht your tach. Don't replace your distributor, dig into the fsm and troubleshoot BEFORE you start throwing parts at your runner.

I just had my battery off a week ago so there were no codes. If I'm at a stop sign or light for more than a min or so I get a real fast cel. And if I get a free part for a part that's making noise anyway i think it's worth a try thanks guys

The tach takes it's signal off the coil, doesn't it?

Ok I'll have to heck that kidv I think we still have a coil laying around as well

kidV should be correct. Every vehicle Ive ever worked on had the tach connected tot he coil. Id check there first. If Im not mistaken mines a blackwire coming from the coil.
