This is what icon sent me



2003-UP Toyota 4Runner V.S. 2.5 Series RR Rear Shocks w/CDCV (0-3" Lift) | 57810CP



I believe if you have more then 3" of lift in back. You need 03 4Runner rear shocks or fj cruisers. That's what 5100 Bilstein are.



Biggest concern on mounting outside. Is tire clearance. We are talking about 2.5 shocks.

Ask Icon what the specs are on that shock. Extended length and compressed length. That'll give you the shock travel. If it's less than 10" I would go a different route. You can get way more travel by keeping them inboard at that point.
Check out this build- http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/182344-hiluxsurfguys-99-slow-hilux-surf-build.html He has custom shocks at the stock mounts and has a whole lot of travel. I didn't go that route because I wanted a more linear shock cycle throughout travel. The more angled your shocks are the more dampening you lose. That's the only reason I went outboard. If you are wanting 10+ inches of travel you'll need to make sacrifices somewhere. I sacrificed my frame.

These are the specs they sent me.
Extended length: 23.9"
Compressed Length: 14.97"
Travel: 8.93"
At this point I'd consider fixing your stock mounts and put them there. You'll gain more travel that way.

When I first did my lift I ran LC Monroe rear shocks and they provided plenty of flex and travel. Would have to extend bumps about an inch or two to avoid over compressing them. The measurements were almost exactly the same as your ICONs just not nearly as nice haha.

Travel: 8.875"
Never measured actual wheel travel with these since I only had them for 1 week, just to be able to go on an offroad trip but here is a picture of flex with them.

I mean you can easily mount them outside the frame. But ask them how much they extended their bump stops and how much travel they actually gained.

Axle bumps higher than factory, factory bumps removed and running SPC hydro rear bumps, 11" travel shock. Given the front only has 8.5, this is sufficient. A lot more to a suspension setup than what the tape measures.

Yea I actually called icon my self to. And the 07 fj + 03 4Runner rear icon shocks are basically identical to Bilstein 5100 AKA long travel. Which Toytec recommends Bilstein 5100 with their superflex Coils. The superflex Coils give 3.75" lift. Makes sense ! ( my current set up ) if you actually take the part number of Toytec's 5100 Bilstein ( aka long travel ) it is identical fj or 4Runner shock.

Thus this icon shock is correct. At this point I'm just going to buy new OEM mounts and fix it. I'm afraid of making mounts for the outside frame. And then in the end the tires rub the 2.5 shock !!

A.Wilson013 runs 2.5 on outside. But he has been mia so I haven't had the chance to ask him how his set up is.

Bumps mounted higher than factory? Damn that's impressive! What size tires are you running to not rub the top of the wheel wheel when fully stuffed? I'm still running stock bumps and I rub the top of the wheel well at full stuff when flexed with 285's. Jealous of the hydro bumps! I hope to eventually get some. Of course there is more to suspension than just travel numbers and that's why I went with the setup I did. I was able to keep stock bumps, gain more linear dampening, easy access, better and rebuildable shocks, raise lower shock mount, and more travel.
