I agree with this comment. I installed these speakers a week ago in the driver and passenger doors along with some cheaper Hertz speakers in the liftgate. The improvement is significant. You will lose some volume because the factory head unit doesn't have enough juice to drive these at higher volumes. The factory head unit will bottom out and distort around 48 -50 on the volume dial. I am installing a JL Audio XD 700/5 with an Audio Control LC 7i to power everything and a small sub in a few weeks. The factory speakers are so weak and only rated for 20w. Everyone that road in the car thought the factory system sounded awful. My wife says it sounds a thousand times better now without an amp. You could certainly go with a cheaper amp but based on the footprint of the XD 700, ability power all speakers +sub, and the reviews I think it's worth it. I also added some sound deadening to the doors.

are the IC165TOY speakers still what people are swapping? i'm looking for a simple upgrade in sound quality and not quite ready to go down the rabbit hole of swapping amps, etc. Just want to replace the existing speakers without breaking the bank to improve audio.

I put the 690Toy in my front doors and dash. The 6x9 door speakers sound ok. I’m not impressed with the tiny dash tweeters. For the enormous price, I think there may be better options on the market. I just replaced the dash tweeters with Infinity Reference REF-3032CFX and like them. I replaced my rear door and hatch speakers with 6.5” coax speakers from TacoTunes and am really impressed with them. The TacoTunes speakers were about half the price of the Focal 165 and they are 2 ohm. As far as I can tell, the Focals are 4 ohms. I had a different brand 6.5” 4 ohm speakers in the rear doors and hatch of my 4runner and could barely hear them. Then I learned about ohms and speakers in serial vs parallel and realized I really needed 2 ohm speakers.

Plug and play. TacoTunes only does audio solutions for Toyota, so they know a little about our vehicles. And yes, coax... just like the Focal 165.

so for under $400 i can swap out all 6 speakers plus the 2 tiny tweeters and there are still opportunities down the road to switch out the factory amp and even head unit without having to fool with the speakers.

at least thats how i'm reading it: $249ish for the front 2 speakers/tweeters/adapters/crossovers & harnesses and $119 for the 4 back speakers.

if i do this i'm doing it once lol and replacing all of them. these factory speakers are trash.

edited: you are correct. i failed to see/select the 'rear hatch' option halfway down the page as well so the $119 only reflected the rear door speakers. Updated price to $222 after i hit that checkbox. still a good deal.

heck no man! spent every penny i earned on a SANYO cassette head unit with HISS REMOVAL and AUTO TAPE SIDE SWAP!

i bought too early..dolby noise reduction feature didn't come along for another 6 months.

how do you like the 6.5" speakers from taco tunes? what brand are they? Considering buying them for the tailgate and rear doors.
