Fog lights Relay compatability

Hey guys my fog lights arent working in my 01 SR5 I just bought, so I checked the bulbs and they are fine...then I went to check the fuse under the hood, which was fine, and noticed theres no relay! what the heck...so my question is, is it the same relay model # as the taillight relay?I imagine so, and I took the tail relay out and put it in the fog light one and no luck...
I guess even tho the bulbs are OK, I have to get the new bulbs with the sockets...but what about the relay? they should be interchangable no?
im gonna check to see what power if any is going to the relay soon

Yes, same as Tail and PWR OUTLET relays: p/n 90987-02012

Fog lights did not come on all SR5´s, so if no relay in fuse box they may have been added later. Is switch on stalk? Look for an add-on relay on driver fender-wall and an in-line tap with fuse from the battery to the relay.

This was the case with my SR5 fog lights. The fuse and relay were located on the fender wall in the between the fender and battery. Mine were installed at the dealership by the PO several years after he purchased it, so YMMV.

No switch on stalk, im pretty sure they should be coming on when headlights are turned on with low beams....
i did look at fuse panel on firewall and didnt see anything...ill look for a tap...
regardless though, if there is a 15fuse in there, i still should have a relay as well right? ill run a multimeter later too

well i checked and theres no relay between the fender wall and the battery..i also checked where the relay plugs in and its lighting up at 12v...so thats good

i then pulled the lights out of the sockets...the sockets werent putting any power out...and i also saw this other wire tapped into the fog light wiring for each light..not sure what the heck it is(picture below)but its just dangling

just weird that there would be fog lights on the truck with the bulbs in, wired and ready to go but not operational and no relay...
guess ill replace the bulbs and get a relay but dont think thats gonna do anything...dunno what else to do..wish the switch was on the stalk

This doesn't make sense. In almost all cases, there will be a switch to turn them on independently from the headlights.

If, and that's a big if, it is wired according to the factory specs it would look like this:

C13 is the switch on stalk. Since your stalk doesn't have the switch, I would suspect that it must be elsewhere. Maybe it was removed?

thanks for the info..but why would the fog relay have power going to it? if some SR5s are prewired for foglights, why would mine have everything but a relay installed?coulda have sworn some SR5s have foglights that go on with the low beams...
i dont know what to do from here...hopefully new bulbs and relay is the cure...

weekend I read your posts on your foglights not working...I am thinking that since the bulbs and fuses all look OK that there is a fuse/relay box somewhere else i havent found...why else would there be no relay in the fuse box under the hood, good lights and fuses but no power?
only thing is, i still have yet to find the relay...i looked in between batt. and fender wall with no luck...ill go look a little later and take some pics..hopefully this time i dont step on a bulb:guitar3:

Just a thought. The fog light relay is the same one as the A/C magnetic clutch relay (located in the same box). You can try to swap that one in to see if that is all you need. If you are not the original owner, then maybe the previous owner had their A/C relay fail (common problem) and swapped the fog light relay in to fix the A/C and never replaced the one for the fog lights.

Sorry,I just realized that this post was in the 3rd gen forum. The info I gave was for a 4th gen, and may not be accurate in your case.

The lack of a switch in the stalk, and the empty fog light plug in the fender means the installation is not factory and you are 100% wasting your time looking at the factory relay location and the factory fuses as they were almost certainly not used. This is why I asked the question.

PO could have done a million things, each one stupider than the next, including just tapping a headlight wire and not using a relay (should blow a fuse, though). Try to trace the foglight 12V+ supply wire. Since it is an aftermarket install, that should not be that hard. Look hard for a switch, because few install fogs without one.

Follow [MENTION=10169]TheDurk[/MENTION]'s advice (he guided me in my dilemma) and trace those wires. Final option would be just to rewire the whole darn thing so that you know exactly what's going on. Could even use the stock relay's in the fuse box. This is something I'm going to be doing real soon myself.
