Fog Lights Won't Turn On - Help?

Hey guys,
I'll preface by saying yes I did do the search, and read through the threads. I have an 03 limited, and ever since I've owned it, I've never bothered to figure out my fog light situation. So thanks to this site I've been combing over my 4R for it's issues and realized that my fogs won't turn on.

Some of the situations I've tried are as follows:
Turn them on with the headlights on and off.
Turn them on while the vehicle is in drive and park.
High beams both on and off.
All permutations of the above.

Does anybody have any idea what I may be doing wrong? I have not checked the relay yet, and haven't checked the bulbs (what are the odds of them both being out?). I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks a lot!

I haven't, but to be honest I don't even know what I'd be looking for.

Underneath your hood on the driver side behind the battery there is a fuse panel. If you open the cover up underneath itll show you and you can see which one is the fuse relay.

You can easily test it by swapping the AC relay with the Fog relay and try the lights. If it works now then you need a new fog light relay. I would highly recommend buying one on amazon because its a LOT cheaper than at the dealer.

Fuse panel looks like this. The fog light relay is either the blue or grey on on the right side next to the big one. I cant remember which one off hand.

Thanks for the help. I've cracked open the fuse box before, but don't really know how to tell if it's good or bad. I'll take a look at it and see if it solves the problem.

Just swap the AC relay and Fog relay, same exact relays. Youll be able to tell right away if it works or not.

Well, the good news is that it was relatively easy to figure out the problem. The bad news is that there wasn't even a relay installed lol. Plugged in the AC and it worked like a charm. So I guess I'm ordering some new relays, and heck, I could use this as an excuse to set up the always on mod for it.:becky:

Fog lights won't turn off

Yesterday, I noticed that my fog lights do not turn off. I went ahead and move around the light switch, turn the vehicle on and off and the fog lights do not turn off. My only option was to take out the fuse for my fog light and it HAD to turn off, that way my battery will not die. Any idea what could be?? Broken switch?? But all other lights turn on and off just fine. Help

Hello, I bought an 06 SR5 4Runner Saturday. I am liking it alot but the oem fog lights don't work. I checked the bulbs, fuse & swapped the relays (dome & fog) domes still work, no fogs. I don't have an independent switch should I?

I'd appreciate any help thanks.

My Wife's 07 Camry hybrid high beams have the same issue. Been driving fuses out for almost a year, Trading it in for a 2016 next month should solve our issue. lol

Downloaded the manual (ordered one from eBay) found "secret switch" lights work.

"Secret Switch?" What and where is it? I installed new fog lights about three years ago on my '05 SR5 and they worked for a few days then now won't turn on. I replaced the Fog Light relay in the engine baby's fuse box, and the 15 amp micro fuse in that same box is fine.
I hope someone can provide some more suggestions because properly operating foggy lights would be nice!

Success installing fog lights

I know this thread is totally ancient but if this helps just one person I will be happy.

I have a 4th Gen 2003 stock SR5 that i have owned since 2004. It did not come with fog lights. I decided to install some recently (for some unknown reason) and noticed there was a spare set of light plugs running off the lower turn signal lights. Assuming these were for fog lights I purchased some online and plugged them in. They did not work. Checking the fuse box I notice there was no relay installed for the fog lights so went ahead and got one. Still, they didn't function.

My 4runner has a turn signal light switch with no control for fog lamps. I made the assumption that since the harness had plugs for the fog lights that the wiring was present but just not being used. I bought a used 4th gen turn signal with the fog light switch on an "auction site" for about $25. Hooked it up and, lo and behold, the fog lights worked!

tl;dr: In my stock 4runner without fog lights the wiring was already run at the factory. All I had to do was hook up the lights, install the fog light relay in the engine fusebox and replace the stock light switch with one that had the fog light switch on it.

I hope this helps someone!
