Food

really depends on the length of my trip. If it's just a day trip, then I'll probably bring a bunch of unhealthy bagged snacks like Chips, MAYBE a sandwich, and other random munchies. Or if someone or myself brings a camp grill, just pack some hot dogs and buns.

For weekend or longer trips tho, I'll bring my portable grill, portable pellet smoker and small generator. Cook up tri tip, ribs, chicken, salmon, and the list goes on. breakfast is usually the basics (pancake/sausage/bacon/hash browns) then lunch is burgers or hotdogs, but dinner is where we get really cookin!!! lol

Back in the day, I used to do week long 4x4, ghost town and exploration trips with a couple friends, all of us driving and camping in our own rigs. I always kept it simple.

Little fresh, mostly eggs, sausage, bacon, potato patties.

Canned meats, soups, pasta.

Dried items that required hot water.

A jug of Carlo Rossi Paisano table wine.

Trail mix.

An occasional stop at a roadside cafe for lunch or dinner.

I’m all about experimenting with burgers too, and hearing about that pastrami, bacon, and Russian dressing combo has me inspired. One trick I’ve started using for homemade burgers is adding a bit of organic goat whey protein to the mix—it’s a great way to sneak in extra protein without messing up the flavor or texture. Plus, it helps keep the patties juicy.Your peanut butter and fried egg combo also sounds wild—I need to try that. I’m thinking of throwing it on a burger next weekend with some caramelized onions for good measure.

Smoked salmon is an awesome choice—I’m with you on that. For me, I always pack organic powdered milk on trips. It’s super light, doesn’t take up much space, and you can use it for so many things. I’ve made coffee, oatmeal, and even mashed potatoes with it out on the trail. It’s been a game-changer, especially when I’m trying to pack light but still eat decent.
