For anyone waiting on a 17

I may not have this down 100%, I've only been working here for 4 months but it goes a little like this.
Customer wants a certain vehicle, submodel, options, etc. First we see if dealers nearby have what we're looking for in stock and we try to "dealer trade" them something from our inventory. Sometimes they take a vehicle we have in stock, or two, or we just buy it outright from them.
If that fails, we try to see if there's anything allocated. At this point we can search nationwide. If the vehicle hasn't been processed through port we can trade for it and re-route it to us.
Last option is to change what we have allocated to us already. Let's say our rep has allocated us a 4Runner SR5 and it's still waiting to actually be produced. We can try to change that unit into let's say a 4Runner Limited. I guess at that point it's looked over and approved or not. If it's approved, when it comes time for our spot in the production line, we'll get the Limited as opposed to the SR5.
Allocation happens once a month and is based on a combination of previous years sales and your relationship with your rep. You get a certain amount of units in the production line for the month to be sent to you.
Now the TRD Pro is a different type of animal. You can have a customer order and deposit for one but there's no guarantee you'll get one (though having a deposit and order helps). That's why dealerships quote crazy wait times like 5-9 months for one. Also, you'll sooner see pigs fly than have a dealership trade you one. Hope this helps.

Interesting what an odd system it is. I can't figure out if most sales reps don't understand it or won't explain it. Sure are lots of customers in the dark.

That was similar to my experience when I ordered a BMW E90 M3. I went to the dealership to select my options and then I was given an order number. Then I was able to create an account on the BMW Owner's Circle website and start tracking my order almost immediately. I saw when the car entered production and could follow it through some of the production stages and then to the port for shipment to the states. At that point you have to get creative if you want to try and figure out which ship you car might be on, but at least I knew my car was built and headed to the states.
I ordered a TRD Pro on October 15thish and I haven't a clue when it is coming or if it is even built. My salesman said I had one of the first 2 allocations given to his dealership and I should have it sometime in the next 2 months, but I haven't been given any way to verify. Luckily, I trust my salesman because we have done business in the past. I just wish that "ordering" process was more transparent.

At least 3 in my city alone and at 1 dealer. Let's see how many orders are racking up around the USA. Curious if orders far exceed supply.

It took 3 months for my TEP to come in. I'd say you'll be lucky if you get it in 3 months.
I agree it should bolt together fine but you can't get one like that from the factory.
I'm in the same boat, only I'm waiting for a Cement TRDP Tundra. 1st time frame was 2-3 months, now it's 6-9 months. If I'm going to wait that long, I'm just going to get a 2018.
Same here. They seem to have forgot about me as well. I've had issues with this dealer before but I knew they had some allocations left.
Not to hijack this thread but do you have any allocations for a Cement TRDP Tundra? You can PM me so we don't clutter this thread.
It blows me away that for $45k+, you may not get exactly what you want. I like Toyota vehicles but I hate the fact you can't order one. You just get to be on the waiting list.
I've ordered Fords and Chevys before and it's a little like that. You can sit down and pretty much get exactly what you want.
I jumped on the waiting list October 1st for my Tundra and no word yet, not even a returned phone call. I guess I may need to look out of state to get what I want. I even told my dealer if they came through with my truck before Christmas I would buy a matching Cement 4Runner as well. Still no motivation out of them.

I placed a $500 deposit on December 5 for an order I'll be 2017 4runner TRD PRO in Cement and have yet to get a Vin number although I was told by tower manager(guy would put order in for customer) that2nd-3rd week of January they're receiving one into the dealership. Haven't heard anything yet about it's where abouts.Have any of your received a Vin#?Can you track its production?very curious to know
already a certified used?! barely into the new year...

Thoughts on when the 2018 4Runner will be introduced? Lots of hype today about the NAIA show reveal Ranger, Bronco, etc. Got me thinking if we can expect the 2018 to arrive December 2017 we should be hearing something about the next gen at some point? Based on prior life cycles a 6th gen should be appearing?
