I know this probably inst the correct location for this. But since more people view a specific gen thread I figured I'd share my knowledge here and maybe others can also.
I own a Ipad Mini 3 128gb WiFi only. Its small and thin. Not to big, perfect size inside the truck. Mine is mounted with USAProclip mounting system. I did not glue the mount, because I want to be able to remove the mounting system for cup holder access.
If you don't know, the WiFi only Ipad does not come with GPS capability. I'm using a external GPS receiver that plugs into my Ipad. The great thing is, it has a micro usb out so you can still charge your ipad at the same time.

It works very good actually, and very accurate. You can download the Bad Elf app which I have to see how many satellites your hooked up to. The great thing, whenever I power my Ipad on, i just tap on the Navigation app I'm using and with in 5-10 sec it usually starts to track my location.
Or you could get the cellular version Ipad and pay a internet subscription. Which can server multiple purpose. But if you want to save money then I recommend Bad Elf.( FOR WIFI ONLY IPAD )
Many have heard or not but Gaia is a amazing TOPO map app. With Wifi only ipad you will need to pre-download your desired locations so you can use it for offline paired with Bad Elf. This app lets you download tiles. The detail of the maps are amazing. You can also track your self, create way-points and more.

But my main purpose for this thread is, you can use your Ipad wifi only as a true offline turn-by-turn gps. Sure, you can use your phone with internet connection. But I like having my Ipad right there, big screen! Took me a while to find a true, turn-by-turn offline navigation.Called,"SYGIC". Basically, you download your state or multiple states. And you can type in any local address and it will GUIDE YOU WITHOUT INTERNET TURN-BY-TURN. It also has, your MPH in the corner, and it also tells you the speed limit on the road, and if your speeding your MPH will be red. It also shows on the GPS screen when you are approaching a different speed zone. Again, offline. No internet required just that you pre-download the state. I've been using this app for 3 days. I actually used it today for house hunting. Driving to 4 different houses. And it took me there without any issues. I believe Sygic is part of TomTom. The paid version paired with internet will give you live traffic. In other words it will find the best alternate route around traffic. I have this for my phone for when I drive to home from work.

Others use Map.me Which I also have the whole USA map downloaded on my Ipad. However It does not guide you turn-by-turn to a local address. But it will guide you to a gas station, or hospital without internet. That is why Sygic is much convenient.
To me Sygic is what google maps SHOULD BE. Moral of this thread is educate new users who want to set up their 4runner for off-roading in the woods. Using Gaia, and using Sygic as a turn-by-turn offline gps. Please share your thoughts and opinions on different apps.
Sygic, Gaia, map.me are all free. With option to subscribe. Sygic offers free lifetime update maps.
