Kind of backwards way of saying that looks play way up there in AT tire selection. But then, looks seem to be a big reason why, oh, what?, 25%? of 4R owners buy the things anyway. $.02

I find it interesting how they tested tires on the trail. I do not know many people that do 75 mph drifts in the dirt. For my needs in the desert I need a strong 3 ply sidewall to prevent punctures on sharp rocks. I think the Cooper tire also came out on top in the Consumers Reports test of tires but they did not test the other tires tested here.

good to hear the Coopers won out, I just put on a set of Cooper Discoverer ATPs which are the more aggressive version of the AT3s and I am loving them, so far on road dry and wet, dirt/sand theyve been outstanding. Will update when I get some more miles on them.

I too am wondering how the BFG AT KO2 would have done & if their changes in the tread, compounds & sidewalls will help overcome the shortfalls of the orig AT KO's.......

Great read! Id love to see this same exact crew test some MTs like the Kms, Cooper ST Maxx, Duratracs etc.
Some of the best tires I ever plowed snow with were Coopers, and its good to see them still making impressive tires (especially since I am really looking at the ST Maxx as my next 255/85s

75 mph on dirt is a much better indicator than 7.5 mph on dirt. Much more stress on the tire.

A friend of mine lives on a farm and has a farm truck with MT tires. It pretty much never leaves the soft dirt and mud. His regular truck, even though it goes in the mud sporadically, has AT tires because of snow, dirt and pavement mileage.

Good article. Also leaves me somewhat confused about what tires to get. They said the Cooper had the best wet handling. The Consumer Reports testing has the Falcon A/T as a better wet braking tire than the Cooper A/T3.

Wet handling vs. wet braking difference? Tire variation?
