Does somebody have too many toys?
Yeah, me too. This is the first dog I've had that likes to stand on her head and she has this weird relationship with that bed. She never sleeps in it, but carries treats in there to eat them, goes there after she eats to wipe her mouth and often carries all of her toys in there. It is also her "safe place" where the kids know they can't bother her.this pic cracks me up
The GSD will be in the back with a doggie barrier. Without the barrier, she invariably ends up in the driver's seat - never the passenger seat - even if I get out of the car to get the mail.
Problem is, I'll be starting the drive mid December, so I need to make a decision soonish to give me time to order a set of winter tires, add lights and so forth.
Is there anything that I'm overlooking?
While everything here is clearly on topic, let's see if I can go off-topic a bit and ask another car question.
Since 9/11, I’ve had a job that requires 24/7 mobility and I’ve always had winter tires and AWD – Yukon, Audi S6, r32, BMW 335, but I moved closer to work a few years ago and bought my current Acura (still with winter tires). Now, it looks like I’ll be commuting daily about 50 miles each way (in all weather conditions). The last five miles are up a windy hill where there is often very significant fog – to the point where you have to drive by listening for the dots on the road (double in the middle and single on the outside). Long story short, I need a new car. I’ve narrowed it down to the following and listed the downsides as I’m also going to use this for a DD.
New’ish (2018+?) 4Runner Limited – downsides – crappy headlights (you know how I feel about lighting upgrades) and lousy A/C in the rear (the dog won’t be happy) – upsides – reliable, goes everywhere, semi-OK gas mileage.
New’ish (2017?) Lexus GX460 – downsides – more expensive, crappy turning radius, not great gas mileage, not particularly attractive – upsides – good lights, great rear A/C, comfy ride
2013-2015 Lexus LX/Toyota Land Cruiser – downsides – price, gas mileage, size – upsides – holds value, reliable
While I'm (logically) leaning towards the GX, I keep coming back to the 4R on an emotional level. I'm telling myself that I can improve the lighting semi legally with the halogen 11/9 swap and add things like ditch lights. I might even look for an ORP/KDSS and add the parking sensors.
The thing that stops me is the reports of poor AC in the rear. Do the three row vehicles have AC vents in the rear to improve air back there? Or am I overthinking this?
I live in Texas and my Golden rides in back all the time and has never gotten over heated. 4R window rolls down in back which is a big plus for dog travel.
Good luck with your choice.
You shouldn't have the window down when idling - but - the smell is often caused by a couple of things - too rich fuel (prevalent on startup), a damaged catalytic converter (less likely) or a clogged evap canister.Do you get the "rotten egg smell" with the back window down while driving? CO1 coming in through the back window!?
Based on the lack of replies, I can only assume that the prior discussions about poor AC in the rear are correct.:noidea:

If it happens other than at startup, then you might want to have it looked at.
