For Those Who Desire the V8 for the 5th Generation

I moved all the debating posts to a new thread in General Discussions, though the thread has yet to appear. I'll post a link up to it if/when it appears and you all can continue your debate there.

Cool...good thinking!! Thanks!

I love V8 threads!

Interestingly, 4Runner sales are up 26% comparing 02/10 and 02/11, and GX sales are DOWN 33% comparing 02/10 and 02/11.

They sold 2,100 GX's in 02/11 compared to 3,700 4Runners in 02/11.

I think this is best interpreted as decent demand for truck based SUVs, and weaker demand for a 65K truck that has basically only a V8 engine and 6 speed transmission to differentiate it from a 4Runner.

Toyota Reports February Sales -- TORRANCE, Calif., March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

I am still on the sidelines waiting to buy a vehicle, but I do not believe they will make a V8 4Runner anytime soon(2013???). I wish Toyota would do so. I do not think spending 65K on a truck is a reasonable path either.

Nice truck but you forgot the "barn door" the 5th's didn't get either :whipping2

I thought this thread was about trying to get everyone who wishes they would bring back the V8 to the 5th Gen to e-mail Toyota stating that.
Here's the e-mail if you would please help us out......Support Login
It's free to start a new thread(arguement) and I'm sure DocMT(JED) would love to debate it. He knows it all !

Does anyone have a clear picture of how the hybrid setup is in the GS and LS hybrids? I think I'd rather like to see a hybrid setup that improves both performance and fuel economy by a bit: much like the Lexus longitudinal drivetrain hybrids. Keep V6 fuel economy and get V8 power.

I figure the hybrid setup sucks for towing, but if they kept the same tow rating of 5000lbs, I'd be fine with it. I'm sure many wouldn't, but I'm selfish. :)

Well, Jesse is a fairly new moderator...so, he is learning the ropes on how to delete & move stuff...i had my shares of "experimenting." :D

Hmmm, we're going off-topic again...if so, then can't we just get back the deleted posts?? Until battery technology improves greatly, i think that hybrid system is fairly limited in what it can do in a SUV, esp. one that tows and off-roads.

Sorry, I thought it was pretty relevant as a V8 substitute since Lexus advertises their hybrids as V8 (or V12) power with V6 (or V8) fuel economy. Like I said, it would probably not be good for towing, but I'd think it would help motivate the 4Runner a lot like a V8 would.

Do you think that Toyota is counting on the supercharger that has been promised for the new 1GR to handle the needs of most people that are asking for a V8? I think that could be a reason we're not seeing a V8 yet.

I still hope for a V8 but I would be more than happy with a super/turbo charged V6.

I will believe it when i see it. Supercharger tends to be inefficient...this is why most manufacturers now use turbos. However, most manufacturers (ford, bmw, etc.) are designing engines from the start to have turbos...not just a simple add-on after the fact.

yea, I'm not sure what happened to all those posts. I moved them to a new thread in the general section, I didn't delete them. after it was done i was viewing the new thread, but when i went back to view it again it was gone. if i had deleted them i would have a link here for each deleted post and be able to restore them, which i don't.

It's the direction most automakers are going -- for example, Ford's EcoBoost engines. The combination of turbocharging and direct injection provides better fuel economy while meeting stringent emissions regulations. It costs more than a naturally aspirated engine, but less than the cost of a diesel engine.

Do you think Toyota is going to and what are the odds of the 4Runner getting a turbo?

In the near term? Zero. In the long term (say three years out), I could see the current V6 replaced with a smaller gas engine, direct injected and turboed. Chances are, this would not increase performance, just maintain current performance and increase fuel economy.

I've come to really like the barn door more then the lift gate (so does the little women). It is much easier to open and close. If I had a choice now, I would select the barn door.

and 2 more...

It’s been 7yrs guys, I have a feeling the letters never made it lol

Yep, and 2 more now, and still none. I knew they wouldn't because if people wanted one, they'd buy a Lexus V8 version.
I kinda hoped someone on here (unless I didn't see it) did a Lexus V8 Swap into their 5th gen 4Runner.

I love my '14 sr5 prem. but I DO miss my '05 V8!
I've had '86, fully mod'd out, 94v6, 2000 Sport TRD Supercharged, '05, and now my '14.
Besides the all too common cracked exhaust manifold in the v8's from the 4th gen era, I loved the v8.
