Recently did a Toytec 1" body lift on my 97 sr5. Everything went on well. Backed the vehicle out of the garage, and the steering is stiff. I mean really stiff. Took it back apart, read the directions for the first time, etc. Couldn't figure it out, but it was driveable, so I did. After a month or two of this, I found time and crawled back under the vehicle to address it. No luck, so I called Toytec. They didn't have an answer, and I am sure you didn't deliberately hang up on me, David, but I did eventually figure out what had happened.
When you do a body lift, and disconnect the steering rag joint without securing the steering wheel first, the steering wheel will spin, and you may not notice it. Basically, I spun the wheel carefully, counting the turns and not breaking the spring wire that connects everything in there (forgot the technical term), and then spun it to the middle position and reconnected.
If you do the lift and your steering is stiff, with very little return, this may have happened to you.
