I wouldn't answer your "so called" question on a bet. Insults from a guy with single digit posts won't win friends or influence people anywhere.
 
For all you so called trolls out there-

10,000 lbs off road all day long, no problems.

I'm not an engineer, but I know that the so called engineers at Toyota put those numbers in the manual, and even on a sticker in the door jam.
 
A more interesting question would be how do modifications such as beefier suspension, LT tires, ect. modify the vehicle's load capacity as a large majority of its towing/payload is designed based upon its suspension system, frame, ect.

But that would require real engineers I guess instead of these "so called" engineers you speak of? So [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] wanna bust out your old-school calculator and figure that out? :D

Example: I build a tower 20 ft high on top of my 4Runner and stick 1,500 lbs of gear and a tent up there and expect to drive around without tipping over. or,
I build a sling under my 4Runner and load 1,500 lbs of gear in there. Which is better? Which is safer?

Your CORRECT question would be "Calling all nice engineers: Could you please calculate the expected safe loading capacity of a 20XX 4Runner with A, B and C mods? Also include the safety factor if it's not too much trouble and also the change in CG and the relationship to lift?" Thank you guys ever so much!

Dang! Now you have me wondering! Lol. That would actually be one of the coolest threads ever! You forgot to mention asking about how adding all the above mentioned stuff changes the engineered weak points to another part... Pretty sure I've done enough crap to make my weakest link in my setup a fairly expensive part... Front end perhaps?

Tire placard on drivers B pillar lists "Cargo Carrying Capacity" this is the maximum weight you can safely add to your vehicle i.e. all occupants, mods, and cargo.

or to be truly accurate, this would require doing math and weighing vehicle;

G.V.W.R minus actual vehicle weight = Cargo Carrying Capacity (i.e. all occupants, mods, and cargo). Sure, you can change tires and springs, but that doesn't change braking capacities or axle ratings (just to name a few). Exceeding capacity determined by these "so-called" engineers would void vehicle warranty, and in the event on an accident, you could be held liable.

In your post, you asked about "off road capacity", but I'm sure you will have to drive "on road" before going off road............might want to check out NHTSA Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
